Cairo: The Indian embassy organised a memorial service here to salute the heroism of Indian soldiers who died in a decisive World War II battle that sealed the fate of Hitler's Afrika Korps.
India's Ambassador Navdeep Suri and a number of senior diplomats and military officials from friendly countries placed wreaths at the memorial on Saturday, an embassy statement said.
The simple but solemn ceremony was part of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of El Alamein being celebrated at El Alamein, where Indian soldiers displayed courage thousands of miles away from their motherland.
The El Alamein battle was fought in two phases in 1942 -- from July 01 to 27 and from October 23 to November 04 -- in the deserts of North Africa.
The Allied victory led to the retreat of Rommel's Afrika Corpsand to its eventual surrender in May 1943.
Suri said the stellar role of the Indian Army in El Alamein was recognised by Rommel himself.
Suri drew attention to the book,"North African Campaign 1940-1943" by JKW Bingham and Warner Haupt, which says the capture of Ruweisat Ridge in a combined attack of 5 IndianDivision and New Zealand Division July 15, 1942 was the turning point in the battle.
Almost 25,000 officers and men of the Indian Army took part in the North Africa campaign, and over 3,000 died in the sands of northern Sahara. The El Alameinbattle accounted for 800 deaths.
Suri said a majority of the Indians who died were in their teens.
They included Hindus, Sikhs andMuslims from the Indian subcontinent. The annual memorial service, he said, ensures that their sacrifices are not forgotten.
World War II Indian heroism recalled in Egypt

My grand father was part of the battle, he was recalled very late from the front.

All Muslim soldiers were held back and Sikhs were sent early, which aggravated the massacre of Muslims at time of partition.

This is first hand version from my grandfather.

My Grandfather fought in North Africa and was taken prisoner by the Germans in June 1942.

Pakistan should be a part of this celebration as well.:pakistan:

It isnt just Indian heroism. Its both Indian and Pakistani heroism at that point in time. My respects and salutes to the brave soldiers from both countries. Sadly, some dumbasses in the west dont get this.

For example in WW1, when the British forces got routed, and the French got whooped as usual  at the franco-german border, it was Indians and Pakistanis that helped defeat the Germans.

Here is a video, I couldnt find this documentary:

Never ending conspiracy theroies.....

It wasn't like Sikhs n Hindus were using IA to massacre Muslims, both sides suffered equal losses if Muslims were killed that doesn't mean that Sikhs n Hindus were having a party time during partition...:hitwall:

whats so heroism - fighting for another country? a country that has no links with you whatsoever other than partly common language

These solider fought for their country. more then 84000 lost their life. Well they fought bravely.
But feel sorry for them, they fought for a country which could not hold her self against own traitors . and let them die for nothing and later forgot them.

The biggest bull i have read so far in this forum with regards to that era. What do you think about the indian national army that received funding from Nazi Germany, Italy, and Japan to fight against the british occupiers, who mind you, were responsible for the Bengal famine as well as other bloody massacres in the sub-continent, excluding the opium wars and the opium trade.

Also, lets not forget this:

It is estimated that since 1917, the bolsheviks and their Communist successors of USSR murdered between 60-113 million people in the territories that fell under their rule, and if we take into consideration the millions murdered by other communist regimes worldwide the number will increase close to 200 million.

The globalist agenda of Communism and Capitalism is quite obvious, yet this scare mongering and mas hysteria that "Hitler wanted to take over the world" nonsense just proves how people rather not think for themselves but blindly believe in inaccurate war propaganda.

i didnt said allies were saints either but they were lesser of two evils i dont have positive view af INA i believe they were mere japanese puppet if i had to choose between britishers and japanese i would choose the former the japanese war crimes were one of the worst in history take examle andaman and nicobar islands despite they were formaly handed over to INA japanese were still in control of those islands and commited several attrocities on the local population and INA could do nothing to save them. if japanese and their puppet INA would have succeded in occupying the subcontinent japanese would have done the same what the did china, korea, singapore, burma etc i know communists commited one of the biggest massacres in history but whats the point bringing them here

Sorry i cant reply properly since i m on mobile :P

Ha, if you are a World War 2 buff, you will enjoy my book.

I firmly believe that if the subcontinent had achieved independence through the methods of the INA and Indian Legion; we would all have been better off.

Actually, the Germans used the British Raj as a blueprint for what they did. Including the concentration camps - which they borrowed from what the Brits did in Africa. Japan raped China and they were a bunch of crazy warriors but the Brits pillaged India for 200 years.
