India has 53% poverty ..Pakistan has 49% poverty..... what is the big difference.....Fact is both country poor...and it is insult to poor ... poverty has become tool to bash each other

This data is from 2005.

Its 2012 already causing Pakistan poverty rising to 45.7% and reducing India's to 29.8% in 2010.

Scraping through: 45% population living below the poverty line, reports BISP – The Express Tribune

Pakistan's poverty levels have decreased by 5% since 2008, when the World Bank reported Pakistan's poverty levels were 17.2%. Today, as per the data collected in the Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement Survey 2010-11, the poverty levels in Pakistan stand at 12%.

Solace among confusion: 5% decline in poverty

But why do you think they are higher the poverty rates in India than Pakistan. Why is Pakistan doing better in having lower poverty levels when Indian economy is supposed to be doing well??

A large farming community ( 70%+ of the population) who are being constantly cheated by politicians by their stupid rules.

To cite an example the present minister Sharad Pawar promoted cotton cultivation which is very much water intensivecrop on an arid land and the result.... farmer suicides in Vidarbha.

On contrast the state of Gujarat with the apt rules , a company named Gujarat Green Revolution Company advising them and adapting to suitable crops have been gaining more income and moved upwards .

Some news.

The present central minister is called "sugar minister" for promoting sugar based industries only. He has been a huge dissapointment. Economic reforms have neglected agricultural reforms. Hence the level of poverty among the masses arent changing much as expected.

Yes we shouldn't be happy that other countries are poor, we should stop this tensions between us and stop spending so much on military and feed people.

70% of china is poor compared to 33% in India. It sjust that chinese govt data is unreliable

I don't know if India is poorer or richer than Pakistan but surely like it is known to the civilized world that it is far better place to be in than Pakistan ..also our HDI is higher.

5% reduction is impossible with GDP growth equal to population growth and BISP did door to door census to count number of poor in Pakistan. And Pakistan had the track record of increasing poverty in the past.

Correct.. the trend for India is positive while that for Pakistan seems negative.

But still not on the desired levels which reflects the mood of the much improved decade.

Slow and steady is India's middle name.

It is mind puzzling how and why any member on PDF would take satisfaction in finding solitude and peace knowing that there are kids on both sides of the border struggling for food. Its shameful and thankfully a rare occurance. Both our nations should simply do whatever they have to - to reduce poverty. If it means radical steps then so be it.
Guys have a think are either of our nations a shining example of no poverty? Just show some respect guys and lets think before posting....

They're correlated but not directly relevant.

Could be redistribustion through welfare and taxes.

As in should be.. since the old tale of the tortoise and the hare holds true in economics as well.

Slow and steady is India's middle name.

As a fast growing economy, slow means more layoffs and enlarged poverty.
