mods time to close this thread please - incident is over!

Its just a proof that how pre-occupied is pakistan that it have to forget its enemy which it loves to hate.

Pak army don't want any direct confrontation with Indian Army at present. My two cents.

Well this isn't the first any such thing has happen. According to members here such type of event has happened before when didn't had any alleged or so called pre-occupation and that chopper was treated in the same manner like this one. So what is the worth of your two cents now?

Anyways I have already made it clear that such gestures are always stupid and worthless. So nothing surprising with your post.:)

This Issue is over so thread close and wait for another such incident . ;)

In fighting in the thread will not help anybody. The fact of the matter is :
1. India could not have gained anything by sending the old unarmed Cheeta helicopter in Pakistan territory.
2. Pakistan also could not have gained anything, had it attacked and destroyed the un-armed intruder.

So when you say that the gesture is stupid and worthless, I disagree. Pakistan only gained the most by showing this gesture.

probably due to the fact that they had a natural disaster and it was established that it was bound for Sikkim --that is why PA was more lenient on them....not to mention the fact that they may have determined that it was an honest mistake and nothing malicious or intentional

it still may be embarrassing for the indian side, but in this instance (and given recent attempts on both sides to adopt a more conciliatory tone) i think both sides don't want to over politicize or make a big deal out of it; we do hope however that this mistake is not repeated again

when any foreign/unidentified aircraft breaches another country's airspace such warnings are usually issued, it's quite normal

the Pakistani side was correct to issue such warning; i don't think the pilot had much of a choice at that point

The Time of India states that the chopper was some 20 km's inside Pakistani Airspace........It took Pakistan so long to respond that the heli traveled 20 k's inside, what kinda response is that? Someone earlier posted that AEWACS had picked up the heli deep inside Indian Air Space so why did it take so long for the PAF to respond if they were monitoring movements inside Indian Air Space??

Islamabad—An Indian helicopter was forced to land in Kargil Sector for violating Pakistani airspace on Sunday. It was released after senior military officials from both sides spoke on hot line.

The Pakistani military had forced the Indian helicopter to land and detained four Indian army personnel after it intruded into its territory in Olding sector in northern Skardu region near the border in occupied Kashmir.

“The helicopter and four officers on board returned around 5.30 p.m. (1230 GMT) after a contact between the Directors-General Military Operations of the two countries,” ISPR spokesman Major-General Athar Abbas said.

Indian officials said the helicopter strayed into Pakistani territory because of bad weather.

“The swift release of the helicopter shows both countries do not want to derail the peace process. Otherwise it could have turned into a major crisis,” security analyst Hasan Askari Rizvi said.

Earlier ISPR spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas said the helicopter intruded into Pakistani territory in Olding sector in northern Skardu region around 1:00 p.m. The helicopter was forced to land near Skardu.

“The helicopter had come deep into our airspace. It was forced to land. Four Indian army officers had been taken into custody, the ISPR spokesman had said. Pakistan Air Force aircraft immediately scrambled into the Air and reached the area and forced the helicopter to land,” a Pakistan air force official said.

A Lieutenant Colonel, two Majors and a Junior Commissioned Officer of the Indian army were on board the helicopter, the ISPR spokesman had said.

Indian television reports cited army sources saying the airspace violation by the Cheetah model helicopter operated by the 666 Siachen Falcons was not intentional.

The reports said the helicopter entered Pakistan territory during “whiteout” conditions due to snow in the mountainous region.

“It was due to bad weather that the Cheetah chopper strayed across the LoC. There was no deliberate attempt to intrude,” the Indian army said in a statement.

even when going 180 km/h it doesnt take long to travel 20 kms.....once the air controllers saw the heading of the aircraft (before the breach) they likely ordered aircrafts to be airborne (which from the time the order takes place, it probably takes about 5-6 min to have those standby crafts in the air)

i think Pakistani response was sufficient, since the aircrafts (from what news is saying) were able to establish a visual and radio contact with the intruders

Now indians are you happy? KYA YAD KEROGE KIS SAKHI SE PAALA PARA HA

They seriously need to replace the ALoutte's old and limited navigation equipment with LOH Dhruv's latest to avoid such unwanted incursions.

I mean, why weren't PAF jets/attack heli's scrambled when the IAF heli was 10 km's inside Indian Air Space and its heading determined to be Pakistan? Shouldn't we be a lot more vigilant and a lot more aggressive in defense especially under current circumstances?

According to my sources, the heli was not forced to land , rather it was running out of fuel after wandering around in the valleys of the sector, and saw a helipad, and as it was running out of fuel, landed there. Why else would we also refuel the heli?

like i said -- they obviously knew what they were doing if the indian aircraft was intercepted and the pilot was ''compelled'' to land instead of trying to make a run for it
