Above is my first effort at trolling, but it was a demand of this stuff coming out again and again in the form of questions and threads.....I should change my signatures ....lol.

Please when you talk about about carrier, keep in mind that it's not only just a carrier you need to maintain, but a whole carrier group as an escort ,now imagine yourself the cost of buying it and then the maintenance. It's unrealistic for PN.

Its a difficult question whether PN can afford a carrier on not

One reason is the lack of funds available to purchase Aircraft carrier . An AC will cost a minimum of 1.5 Billion USD and that too a 30000ton one , something like the Nimitz can cost as much as 5 Billion USD

Second is lack of available escorts for the carrier . At present PN operate like 9 Frigates and zero destroyers , out of which 6 Tariq class Frigates are like 32-37 yrs old , 3 of them would be decommission by 2016

Even a Small CBG like the one operated by India comprise 7 vessels
Like 2 Rajput/Delhi class Destroyers , 3 Talwar/Godavari class Frigates , 1 Kilo class Sub and 1 Tanker

Even if Pakistan was to acquire 2 Destroyers and 4 New Frigates , it still cannot afford to have half of its Surface combatant forming part of CBG , coz that will leave quite a small number to defend its coast

Before acquisition of a carrier PN should look at acquisition of 1-2 Second Hand LPD like INS Jalashwa to get experience in operating large ships , and the fact that LPD can carry out Humanitarian operations in time of crises like Tsunami , Earthquake , Hurricane

If u look at the fact that India got a 35yr old , 17000ton LPD capable of carrying 6 Helicopters and 1000 marines for only 52 Million USD , while Pakistan is Paying 78 Million USD for a 33 Yr old 4000 ton frigate
This tells u who has got a better deal and who has got a raw deal

USA has like 4-5 Trenton class LPD which would be decommissioned between 2012-16 after 40 yrs in service becoz of Induction of the San Antonio class

U Guys can also look at South Korean Dokdo class LHD which cost around 600 Million USD but can carry like 10-15 Helicopters along with 720 marines

If u guys insist on a platform capable of supporting fixed wing aircrafts then u can try convincing the US to Sell one of the 2 Tarawa class LHD/Harrier carriers like the USS Nassau WHICH WILL BE UP FOR DECOMMISSIONING IN 2015 , after 36 yrs in service
Now this ship can carry upto 20 Harriers and 10 Helicopters along with 1900 Marines and it will not cost more than 300 Million USD u can spend another 150 Million USD on 15-20 Second hand harriers and replace them with F35B when they become available to u after 2025

If u want something smaller and also cheaper then u can request UK for HMS Ark Royal before it is sold to some Turkish company as scrap metal , Now this ship is only 25 yrs old and was suposed to remain in Royal Navy service till 2016 Till the SDR screwed it up

I am sure Royal navy would be willing to sell it for about a 100 Million USD and u can spend another 100 million USD on purchase of 12 harrier

I have never paid one penny as tax for my bsuiness.

Thanx God, it was a good decision. As long as defence budget is not diverted to socio-economic development, I will not pay any tax. I will bribe the FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) officials as usual :p:P

:agree: Same over here man. By the way, in my view - coming to the topic, PN does not need aircraft carrier. Our shore length does not demand keeping one, our naval defense doctrine is defensive in nature and moreover, none of our port is capable of berthing an aircraft carrier.

I think what we need is a mixture of force multipliers and a reliable friend like China can be a great help [not to mention some back-door technology stealing, and reverse engineering --:) ]

A couple of multi-purpose frigates capable of engaging multi-dimensional targets simultaneously at both long and short ranges equipped with state-of-the-art electronics (EW Suites, communication gears etc) shall be sufficient. These can be augmented by dedicated FACs in anti-shipping role and dedicated corvettes with anti-submarine roles (like Pauk class). On the submarine role, induction of AIP capable submarines with the capability launching sub-surface cruise-missiles shall suffice. On the aviation side, induction of AWACS type aircraft and 1-2 dedicated multi-role aircraft squadrons should complete the entire package.

Moreover, pragmatism dictates that PN should also invest in land-based mobile missiles for anti-shipping roles and should raise a dedicated unit for strategic strikes at Indian naval bases.

These measures will surely keep Indian Navy in the check and we shall be able to maintain our SLOC 24/7.

Comments will be welcome - thanks.

I guess we shold have aircraft carrier if we can afford it....to defend our interests in the open seasz...:woot:

Pakistan does not need aircraft carrier but our navy needs fighter aircrafts of long range and latest avionics. Our sea area is not huge and we are not a regional power. Our economy can not sustain for a 1 bn $ per anum so for time being we should go for fighter like Euro fighter if we can not then we should go for SU 35 and if not them then should go for J-11 b.Two squadrons will be enough. We should also add modern submarines with AIP and survllence aircrafts.

The fact this question is being asked is quite laughable. But actually quite intriguing as it gives an insight into the Pakistani mindset- look at all the countries who currently operate ACC US,Russia, France, Italy, India (not UK anymore) these are all WORLD powers with HUGE economies to back them up, an ACC is more than a ship it is a political statement, a peice of sovereign territory anywhere she sails. The fact PAKISTAN thinks it is up there with these world powers? The cost of building, equipping with advanced aircraft, setting up infrastructure and operating would not only be a HUGE learning curve ( as the Chinese are currently realising) but would pretty much swallow up Pakistan's ENTIRE defence budget. And why does Pakistan want/need one when it certainly isn't to project her power across the world in line with its global image( sarcasm it clearly isn't seen as a world power)? Answer- because her big brother India has one!!

I think we need state of the art weapon systems for defending ourselves and to ensure our sovereignty. This aircraft carrier business is much beyond our requirement and resources.

AC has great advantages. Especially in Navy air defence. India is going for more ACs. So Pakistan should concentrate on navy upgradation..

I guess Pakistan is lacking in air craft carrier where india has one. What do you guys think...
India is making air craft carrier with russia. Why don't Pakistan and china cooperate to make an air craft carrier.

I thnk Pakistan should buy 3 aircraft carrier at $2billion each.

Will work out to be worth 4% of your GDP, which is worth it.

India is already making its indigenous aircraft carrier, has already launched its indigenous submarine building more.

I second that. Pakistan needs atleast two carrier battle groups as fast as possible. It also needs to lease nuclear submarines.
