Does the PN need an aircraft carrier?

.
I agree that more than A/c's, Pakistan should focus more on submarines.

You are making me say this.
Pak will loose that advantage in next years as well. India will be able to monitor every movement of submerged or surface vehicle in and around its territory. After the initial sucessfull trials of the underwater sensing system(sea bed sonar systems) the project has reached the final stage. In the coming years DRDO will establish the networking of such sonars placed at all choke points and at specific points in and out of Indian waters. This networked system will help detect and track all kinds of vessels using its Active/passive sonars. We can see the initial phase getting operationalised by IN by 2017. By 2025 whole IOR will be a spyder web of such SBSS.

what Pakistan really needs now is API subs``

Basically, Our Air craft carrier must be in our waters, and submarines must be ahead of it to prevent any attacks. J11 or JF-17s maybe used on them.
F-22p frigates with torpedos are also great for defence of the Carrier.

Although this may take as long as 2016, we still need the project started.
However, looking on the P-3Cs situiation, we need more of those before the enemy subs come!

Pakistan needs an aircraft carrier to defend the country if India decides to launch multiple attacks from many fronts.
Nope, In my view, we dont have its need keeping in view its cost and benefit analysis. as it would cost around 7 - 8 bn $. Instead of going for an aircraft carrier we can buy advance frigates, submarines, destroyers etc. as an alternative, as these would be of better defence capabilities with cheaper cost. Further its maintenance cost gonna be much high, with a complete fleet and at least a submarine would also be required to prevent it from attack.

AC carrier is Angraiz ki Tie.... and for this tie you'll need to buy a full suit. Destroyers, Frigates, Battleships, Subs, etc etc..... We cant afford this much neither we need this much..... Navy should focus more on stealth frigates and subs.... And Ships and subs should be upgraded to level so that they can become platform to lauch cruise missile....

India is already making its indigenous aircraft carrier, has already launched its indigenous submarine building more.

There is nothing indigenous with India. The aircraft carrier is built with assistance from Russia while the US and EU are also helping. Nuclear submarine built with the help, transfer of technology, training and weaponry from Russia, US and EU. Scorpense being built under licence. India is also procuring massive weaponry, technology and anti-missile system from Israel.

Oh wow...threads like this make me want to cry.
Do people realize our ENTIRE naval fleet is not adequately equipped to support an aircraft carrier....forget diverting a few ships to the defense of an aircraft carrier, our entire fleet is almost useless.
We have minimal air defence capability in our frigates, we have no destroyers, we don't have any nuclear submarines and no fighters.
Don't you guys think if we had the kind of money to buy an aircraft carrier, we would already have these other things...we require foreign assistance to build nuclear reactors and cant create the energy supplies for our domestic need, how are we going to build an adequate powerplant?
Our coastline is tiny, aircraft carriers belong in the hands of the Americans, the Chinese, the Indians, all of whom have large coastlines and a need and will for power projection...which is the primary reason for building aircraft carriers...we cant even project power in Balochistan, what are we going to do, send our aircraft carrier to Saudi Arabia so that the aid money we beg them for will be given a full escort...common people...we couldn't protect a naval base, we don't have the money to buy German diesel subs, in which world will we be able to buy an aircraft carrier and prevent it from being a sitting duck the size of a small city.

So i see the thread starter didn't care to read previous threads about the same topic rather then wasting thread space to start a new one beats me ... anyhow Pakistan Navy does not need a AC get that out of your heads it needs to build up its surface fleet and also its sub fleet ... simply .

1. At independence 1947, Adm Siddiq advised the Qaid e Azam to acquire HMS Hercules. RPN at that time was the senior most Service, and Siddiq was the only Pakistani among the Chiefs. RPNHQ was at Karachi whereas the other HQs were up in the north. Siddiq therefore had Mr Jinnah's ears, and the government decided to acquire the RN carrier. After the Qaid's death the decision was altered and Nehru quickly obtained the carrier. RIN thus got RINS Vikrant.

2. Carrier will have to be deployed with other craft. This is an expensive affair. Instead, PN may consider the fols:

a. Adopt "Swarming Tactics" like the Iranians.
b. Establish bases and service facilities at ports in the littoral states so that all assets of PN are not blockaded.
c. Always upgrade coastal defenses.
d. Strategic assets in the coastal belt should be protected by innovative passive defense.
e. Strategic assets now concentrated at Karachi should be dispersed and sent inland as far as possible.
f. China's and DPRK's maritime doctrine of asymmetric def should be adopted.

3. The above emanate from my view that IN remains PN's principal threat. And IN is a massive as well as a professional fighting machine which must not be underestimated.
