After the Turkish forces incurred heavy losses at the Al-Watiyah base and recognized the destruction of its air defense system, the Turkish Presidential Information Office stressed on Monday that the Al-Jafra base is a military target for the Turkish forces.
The importance of that military base is that, with the city of Sirte, it is a key to controlling Libyan oil resources, as well as a strategic location.
On June 20, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi stressed that he would not allow any threat to Egypt's western borders, which are linked to the borders with Libya, stressing that any transgression of the cities of Sirte and Al-Jafra in Libya is a red line for Egypt.
What is the importance of that base?
Al-Jafra is an important strategic point, according to General Nasr Salem, the former head of the Egyptian army's reconnaissance body, in previous statements to Al-Arabiya.net, explaining that the Sirte region is the true door to control the oil-rich areas of the Crescent.
He also pointed to the importance of the Al-Jafra region as it links southern and northern Libya, and has the largest air base, so controlling it with Sirte means that the path to reach the Egyptian border and its threat is open.
Declaration of war
The former head of the reconnaissance apparatus revealed that the phrase red line that Sisi launched in relation to the Egyptian military concept means not approaching, and in the event of non-commitment or obedience, the response will be direct dealing with those who think about crossing this line, because it will be an explicit threat, adding that this and without any evasion in thinking means launching a military strike against any forces that cross this line and threaten Egyptian national security.
For his part, Major General Mahmoud Khalaf, the military expert and advisor to Nasser Military Academy, confirmed in previous statements to Al-Arabiya.net that the Sirte-Al-Jafra line is known and defined by clear coordinates, within the determinants of Egyptian national security, and whoever thinks of approaching it means that he declared war with Egypt.
Jufrah base
He also added that the hostile forces, upon their movement towards this red line, will be detected and monitored in the air, and will receive direct and strong strikes against them, indicating that any such progress will not be a picnic, but rather a real and comprehensive war against those believed to be trying to undermine Egyptian national security.
The important Al-Jafra airbase is to the south of Sirte, and it is only 300 km away from it.
Libyan Army Operations Room
In addition, the Al-Jafra base is one of the largest Libyan air bases, and it is characterized by its strong infrastructure that has been modernized, to accommodate the latest weapons, and it also constitutes a major operations room for the Libyan National Army forces.
The Al-Jafra region is also important, because it is located in the center of the country, and is about 650 km southeast of Tripoli, which is the axis of link between the east, west and south, and means controlling the base of Al-Jafra, roughly controlling half of Libya.
Erdogan's greed
The Turkish President did not hide his ambitions in Libyan oil, as he revealed his true goals to interfere in Libya, and talked about the "sensitivity" of the process of controlling the city of Sirte and its surroundings due to the presence of gas and oil wells.
The Turkish Energy Minister stated earlier that his country plans to start oil exploration operations within the maritime borders that have been identified under an agreement with the Saraj government, within three to four months.
