Obama's pitch: Fix Kashmir for UN Security Council seat

Light manufacturing industry is gone, textile industry is gone, furniture industy is gone, car industry was on life support, millions of jobs outsourced.

I remember a statement by Greenspan about economy around 2004/2005, he was describing it as a new kind of economy. New kind my foot, real state was fueling it. Some Pundits were making silly arguments such as America will have more high end jobs as we outsource more and more.

The excesses of the first six years of the last decade are going to take a while to correct.

That's what I was trying to explain but oh well not my country, not my concern according to some people.

Obama can not do anything of this runied ruined American Economy in his 4 yrs stint! he should have been careful while giving speeches during pre election!!

Arm twisting such kind of situations would never work out. Particularly in this region both parties would be averse to any such pressure. If Obama thinks he can do it i am sorry he is mistaken.

If the solution seems to be good fro India then Pakistan will not play ball, that's it. Even if the solution was the same that was proposed by Mr.Musharaff sahab, the reason it would be looking like they are bowing to US pressure. However if the soultion is not good for us, u will expect BJP to have a field day in parliament. The government cannot risk such a situation after the nuclear liability bill headache.

Truth be told till Kashmir issue is pending, anyone dealing with India's UNSC seat honestly would have to put that first.

India can simply keep voting in its own favor, keep vetoing and what not. It makes no sense to give India that power.

Although the suggestion that any hint of US involvement will solve Kashmir is laughable. There will be politcal firestorm both in India and Pakistan if it is known that the deal being worked out has American pressure of some sort. It wont work period.

There wont be any firestrom in Pakistan if theres US involvement in the Kashmir dispute. Pakistan's FM asked US to intervene in Kashmir. In india, its an entirely different story. Any mention of Kashmir, and indians go crazy. What do you indians have to hide? worried that the world will focus on human rights abuses committed by indian armed forces in India Occupied Kashmir.

I'm glad Obama is atleast talking about this very important issue for the sake of peace and stability in South Asia.

I was joking with someone before Obamas inaugaration that he is going to fix the economy with a "speech." on Jan 20, 2010.

Obama the magnificent ( as Michael Savage fondly calls him) couldn't pull that off.

A country that has disputes with almost all of its neighbours (Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, and Nepal), its ridiculous to allow a country like that a UNSC seat.

Seriously, sometimes I wonder despite being an Indian why India is after UNSC seat since UN has no more imp role to play. Also, these UN things are used to put sanctions to countries which have good relations with India such as Syria, Iran, Iraq(under Saddam Hussein) etc and even if India gets UNSC seat it would put India into a difficult position in order to appease European and American countries and go ahead sanctioning friendly countries.

So let me ask you this, if the US asks Pakistan to solve the dispute along the Musharraf-Singh formula is that acceptable to you?

This is what they are trying to push for. This article including more recent articles from former administration officials revolve around that.

My reading is that India will not allow it because it involves joint supervision with Pakistan as well as giving more autonomy which is still a hot potato politcally.

Pakistan will not accept is because principally the army/ISI establishment consider it unaccetable.

Maybe it will work maybe it will not, but both countries and their allies can talk and work out more solutions to fix the dispute. The important thing is atleast now more world leaders are talking about Kashmir rather than whats happening for so long, ignoring the root cause of rivalry between two nuclear-armed nations.

The answer is definitely not the expansion of veto power. The UN is useless enough without expanding it.

But India does have the most credible bid to the SC.

Sorry to disappoint but Obama will still be around after 2012 and as for Hillary? Sarah Palin the hockey mom gone political has a better chance.

Here's what's going to happen. The democrats will have the most house of representative seats won and the senate republicans will stay below 50%

Barack Obama will have a 50/50 chance of staying the white house with the most likely replacements being Mitt Romney or Sarah Palin.

I dont think Obama is coming back. He had his tryst with destiny and American public patted on their collective backs for demonstrating that the stigma of racism doesnt exist in USA any more.

2012, will take USA back to regular politics

My 2 cents

For Pakistan.. Yes.. For rest of the world, I am not so sure...

Fortunately, Pakistan has little if any say in this
