Need a suggestion.

PAF have FT-5 (30), FT6(19) and FT7 (~50)...Total around 99

These are all aging AC's used for training and will be grounded within 2 to3 years coz they would not be worthy in the PAF future inductions

Why not PAF convert then into Target Drones as China did...

Ba-5 (Jian-5) Target Drone

The Ba-5 target drone was based on the J-5, a Chinese copy of the Soviet MiG-17 (NATO codename: Fresco) subsonic fighter. The target drone has the original pilot seat in the cockpit removed to provide additional space for the automated flight control system. Several hundred retired J-5s are believed to have been converted air-to-air and surface-to-air missile testing.

Additionally, the PLA Air Force is believed to be exploring the possibility of using the unmanned Ba-5 drone for ground attack role. The aircraft simply serves as a ‘cruise missile’ by flying to the target zone and then plunge into a large area target such as airport or depot.

Jian-7 Target Drone

The PLA Air Force (PLAAF) has converted some of its retired Jian-7 fighters into unmanned target drone to simulate enemy aircraft in air-to-air and surface-to-air weapon testing. The pilot seat on these aircraft has been removed and replaced by radio control equipment. The Jian-7 target drone can fly at supersonic speed and simulate typical manoeuvres of modern combat aircraft.

Making these AC's, target drones can also confuse enemy Air force......

Do you mean dummies or real flying drone and do you know the cost of converting them.

PAF is aleardy using unmaned target drones. these first time say action in last years air force exercise "Saffron Bandits"

but yes converting the old fleet into target drones will also be a good idea, provided the conversion costs less then the original target drones that we are using!!
regards!

There is another thing ..their RCS will be big on the radar and its operating cost might be more regarding fuel consumption...but still it is a considerable option....depending on its use...:coffee:

Sorta cute plane would hate for it to be target drones , I am sure these could be refurbished and reconditioned with new avionics as a trainer

Real flying Target Drones

I will be costly but not huge...
Imp thing we would be having Target Cruise Unmanned Aircrafts

The concept of UAV's and target drones is little different.

Target Drones can be used as a sucide attackers on airports, depotes, missiles in air, warships etc.
They have expert manuvers and can have a cruise speed

We dont have killing UAV's

No they cant be....airframe is too old.
Making a refurbished tariner AC is expensive then Target Dorne...

Besdies that we need new generation Trainer AC's coz old trainers are not good for 4.5th and 5th generations fighter AC's

but the article is indicative of ariel recon drones rather than target practise drones.....furthermore, testing a missile against an old fighter may lead to a misleading conclusion about the quality and reliability of missile as old planes are not that manuverable and resistanat as compared to the new ones...

yeah correct. the article was about use of drones to target enemies and note regarding target drones!!
thanks for pointing at mistake.

corrected

regards!

why an new cruise missle with huge rcs , when you have babur and RAAD..

these are fit for missile practice alone

????? the hex are you talking about?????.....:rofl: we are discussing the possibilty of using old aircrafts as targets and you jumped in with a cruise missile :hitwall:

I was just replying to the discussion above my post by arsalanaslam123 .

" drones to target enemies " , a jet powerd object targeting enemy is well a cruise missile.. so i was asking why PAF need that..
