MOSCOW (Reuters) - Moscow and Abu Dhabi are discussing the possibility of joint use of Kazakhstan's Baikonur space base and continuing talks on the Su-35 fighter jets, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Raguzin said.
"The space issues were at the center of my discussions today, and the talks dealt with the possibility of joint use of the Baikonur space airport by Russia, Kazakhstan and the UAE," Ragosin said at the Dubai Airshow 2017. "We agreed to continue discussions in Baikonur at the earliest."
He added that a technical park will be built in Baikonur.
"Of course, the UAE is a difficult country for us, and our relations with it are developing as well as with Saudi Arabia. Until now, the Americans were monopolists of the region, but we have opened it." Emiratis and Saudis know the excellent technical specifications of our air defense equipment, and they no longer argue about it, and highly appreciate our capabilities in the field of electronic defense and aviation, of course "
Ragosin said talks were continuing with the UAE over the sale of Su-35 fighter jets.
The UAE has expressed a desire to buy more than a squadron of Su-35 fighter jets, while the exact number of aircraft will be determined during possible negotiations at the Dubai Air Show.
If the negotiations are successful, the contract could be signed before the end of the year, the TAS news agency reported, quoting a source.
