Z-19 Light Attack Helicopter unveiled?

Z-10A will use a more advanced millimeter wave radar after engine upgrade from WZ-9 to WZ-16。

Current one on WZ-19 is already advanced enough.
It's an AESA millimeter radar which is one generation in advance to the mechanical radar now equipped on AH-64D.
It's the world's highest level of millimeter radar ever inducted on armed heli, almost none such radar has ever been made into service in other countries.
A step closer to the All-AESA radar production line for PLA.

Z-10A with upgraded power plants(WZ-16) can carry,among other things,heavier armour,higher payloads and a more advanced millimeter radar。
 
It is just a matter of time when WZ10 carry AESA MMR, especially high output power engine installed.

The first images have emerged of a new variant of the Harbin Z-19 light attack helicopter, equipped with a new mast-mounted active millimeter-wave (MMW) radar that appears similar to the Lockheed Martin AN/APG-78 Longbow fire control radar fitted to the Boeing AH-64 Apache.

Sources on Chinese military web pages have indicated it may be a lightweight version of a mast-mounted radar originally designed for the seven-tonne Changhe Z-10.

The sources have also suggested that Chinese MMW radar research began in the 1980s at the Xian Electronic Engineering Research Institute, and that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) was investigating its application for helicopters as early as 2003. It appears China made a deliberate decision to develop fixed active MMW technology for future helicopter radars, rather than for mechanically rotating radar systems.

An image of an early mast-mounted radar emerged in March 2007. In addition, the Harbin Z-9 has been used to test mast-mounted devices that could have been radar or optical systems. As elements of the Z-9, based on the French Aerospatiale (now Eurocopter) SA 365 Dauphin, were used in the Z-19's design, this would help explain the early appearance of a mast-mounted radar on the Z-19.

Sichuan Aerospace Industries Co displayed an 8 mm MMW radar for the C-701 small attack missile at the 2000 Zhuhai Airshow. Chinese sources have signalled that an MMW radar-guided variant of the Norinco AKD-10 air-launched anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) may be in development. The AKD-10 is used by the Z-10 and Z-19.

In order to compensate for the added weight of the mast-mounted radar, engine upgrades for the Z-10 and Z-19 may also be under consideration. So far, an estimated 100 Z-10 and 80 Z-19 attack helicopters have been produced for the army aviation branch of the PLA's ground forces.

PLA Army Aviation units need a minimum of 500-600 Z-10s、Z-10As、Z-10Bs,Z-XXs。。。。

Very true, I am however more interested in helicopters for transportation, as I think helicopters are the essential support unit of an infantry.

The current Chinese transport helicopters are disappointing to say the least. The number is also not great.

China needs 5,000 transport helicopters ultimately, if we assumed average capacity of all mixed types of transport helicopters be 20 troops, that is a 100,000. Take 20% off line for maintenance down time, that is 80,000 troops carrying capabity, which is not really a lot for the 1 million strong army.

Present number of less than 500 transport helicopters is not enough.

Lol 5000 transport helo? For real?

While you are at it, why not make 5000 Y-20 and make the whole PLA an airborne force lol?

You don't need 5000 transport helo, make that much would require a large logistic force, look at it this way, on average it take 20 person to service 1 helicopter, 4 to 6 mechanic, 2 fueling technician, 2 pilots, 1 crew chief, 2 weapon specialist, 2 logistic specialist and 4 or 5 ground personnel, so you need an extra 100,000 soldier to take care of 5000 helicopter, what happen if you want to forward deploy the 5000 helicopter? I know, get another 5000 20 seat helicopter to chopper them in lol...

Heli transport or Air Assault is a tiny component of an armed force, and they stayed small for a reason. Currently less than 30,000 of the 2.2 million US troop are Air Assault deployable and less than 100,000 were air assault trained...

The Chinese auto industry produced over 19 million vehicles in 2012. Do you think that's enough to transport the PLA? :lol:

You can produce 1 million Z-20, you have enough steel and enough factory to make 1 millions heli but can you use all 1 million z-20 on battle?

As I said , you need approximately 20 soldier to look after 1 single helicopter, yes you can produce 1 million helicopter, but can you make 20 million soldier suddenly appear in battlefield to operate those helicopter? Even if you do? How do you transport those people to front line so they can operate or fix the heli?

It's never about how many you can produce, US produce more than 20,000 helicopter since UH-60 went in production, but does it mean you have enough people to use and maintain those 20,000 helo?

Lol I love when chinese member here talking no sense but only say we can do this and we can do that.
