The government of Japan is all set to induct some 340,000 skilled workers and professional from Pakistan in next five years.

The landmark decision has been made after a recent heated debate in the Japanese Parliament that agreed to amend constitution and allow increase in number of skilled workers from other countries.

Pakistan is one of the top ten countries from where the workers would be taken from Pakistan.

Ambassador of Japan Kuninori Matsuda broke this positive news at a ceremony hosted in honour of the President of MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP), Dr Nasir M Khan.
Dr Nasir has been selected for the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendations certificate 2019 in recognition of his association’s work for growing Pakistan-Japan ties in various areas.

MAAP is Pakistani alumni’s of Japanese universities and making significant contributions towards the promotion of educational relations between Japan and Pakis-
tan.

Ambassador Kuninori Matsuda further said not only new skilled workers would be allowed to work in Japan but work visa of those already staying in the country would also be extended. Pakistani community is already contributing to the Japanese economy and infrastructure with its wonderful work.

He encouraged the Pakistani workers, youths and professionals to learn Japanese language which will be the primary requirement for applying in various fields of Japan’s professional sector.

He mentioned 14 areas specifically where these new workers would be inducted. They are: Information Technology (IT), Agriculture, Fishing, construction, ship breaking and others.
The Ambassador hoped that the MAAP members can play a vital role in extending their cooperation in this regard by advising those Pakistanis who wish to work in Japan as skilled workers on the language, lifestyle and culture of Japan.

The Embassy of Japan will soon sign a MoU with the Government of Pakistan in this connection and this will play a vital role in contributing to the human resource and economic development of Pakistan as well as in promoting bilateral cooperation, said the Ambassador.

If we create the opportunities locally, people will choose to remain at home rather than go abroad. We just need to give them the chance to make that decision fairly. Good luck to all those who do go. Maybe one day they or their children will return to Pakistan as assets.

Don't worry we have alot of people back home

Good for Pakistani citizens.

Bad for state of Pakistan (brain drain)

It is not bad either, when some of them will return after 10 20 or 30 years they will have better experience and international exposure. This way they can serve country far better.

The skilled educated people are the backbone of a developing nation.

People who go abroad might send foreign remittances back home but they develop ideological differences in longer term and less likely to serve in their motherland unless huge paycheck is offered.

we have examples of Our own nuclear program, Dr Salam, and many more

I would rather Pakistanis go abroad, earn, hone their skills and return to apply them here. Rather than rot here with no opportunities.

+ in Pakistan we don't get such exposure as we get in international competition environment and industries.

Those were 80's when we had a bit of patriotism left in our blood.

Ask the youth around you if they would come back to the country after polishing their skills and earning abroad (if they had a chance)? You'd be having a hard time getting a positive answer.

Those who wish to migrate/stay abroad can go as they please, no hard feelings.

While it's not ideal, it is better than the current economic situation, which offers limited employment opportunities.

Remittances from abroad will increase, and help the Pakistani economy in the short term, and hopefully create more domestic employment opportunities in the longer run.

Another thing to consider is that unlike Western countries, Japan does not encourage immigration.

So while some workers may stay on for a long time (like Gulf countries), and others may move on to other countries that will accept them as immigrants, I think a good number will return to Pakistan with skills and exposure to the Japanese work ethic.

Human Capital is perishable item so if we cannot use it, keeping it would be useless.
Anyway, any top intellectual/scientist/engineer from our university/industry is not match of R&D/work ethics/technology in Japanese companies/university etc. All we need is to make japanese language center and teach our engnners, FSc students etc their language and send them to japan. Next age is of electronics, renewable resources, medicine and AI and we should train our workforce for that..

Does anybody know the other nine countries that are on this list and how competitive they would be?
