Departure of skilled professionals

Many of my relatives who are well off and living in DHA Lahore are leaving Pak for Gulf, North America and Europe and rest are applying jobs in all over the world. This brain drain is real. Pakistanis has never witnessed the pain of this unimaginable inflation and they have lost the hope in the country.

The country was doing Ok just 2 years ago but Bajwa, Nadeem Anjum and now Asim Munir has ruined everything. These Gens are worse than traitors and millions are suffering because of them.
Isn't DHA like Beverly Hills for Pakistan? Those who are living there would have money stashed in tax havens. Inflation shouldn't matter to them as bulk of their wealth is in foreign currency anyway.

No wonder the army is putting up banners to tell the people not to leave their country.

They migrated to the US and guess what? They were paying bribes to other Pakistanis working in vehicle departments to get their licenses. They brought their filth here.
wtf. why would anyone do that unless they are doing something bad ?

You have no idea. Even the people in DHA are feeling the inflation. The fire which these traitor Gens has started is spreading everywhere and reaching in all corners of Pak.

You won't like my answer, but Pakistanis are very selfish people. Many elite Pakistanis have invested heavily in foreign countries such as UAE, Malaysia, US, UK and even BD. These elites have businesses abroad. Pakistanis don't have faith in Pakistan. Not even those in power. Many military generals have luxurious appartments abroad. Many political leaders have luxurious properties abroad. The business community in Pakistan is no different. The elites choose to retire abroad. Pakistan is a very unfortunate country that is inundated with extremely corrupt and selfish people.

Pakistanis are no self fish more than any one else in the world .

The problem is not democracy or military rule it is the non application of neither .

If the military wants rule fine… then establish law and order , safety , consistency of policy etc

It's second nature for them. I know idiots who paid to get covid vaccination certificates, rather than getting jabbed.

Its almost a flex for these people, like "look at me, i'm so connected i can get shit done".

My issue is why do Pakistanis choose to leave instead of confronting their issues head on? Compared to India and Bangladesh, which do have high immigration but less compared to Pakistan when stacked against total population.

There is corruption & misgovernance in Bangladesh & India too, but people there solve their problems. There is high productivity & exports in Indian & Bangladesh, increasing number of startups, etc. Basically there is enough entrepreneurs to tackle the problem of unemployment.

The US does not have the greatest economy because the jobs & industry always existed, but because entrepreneurs struggled to create industries that led to its vibrant economy.

Even the Indians that do leave always find some way to benefit India- Google or Microsoft CEO directing investment to India, etc. Meanwhile, Pakistanis abroad wouldn't dare invest at home. I understand that recent military intervention has driven them away, but this was an issue even before this period.

They are docile and do not challenge problems or even themselves. Running abroad is an easy solution to everything, as is taking bribes & stealing to low wages. Everyone is willing to run abroad, including Corp Commanders, and that's why foreign policy is decided elsewhere.

I wonder, if immigration abroad was banned, might that help correct the brain drain problem? What if it resulted in a boom in startups? Increase in productivity, exports because people have no where to run?

Survival in India is so much easier, in fact the middle class in India is thriving. Compare that to Pakistan, a feudalist, elitist craphole. The military intervention today is just a repeat of the same cycle of BS we've had for 75 years. The only solution to Pakistan is a bloody revolution.

Having not grown up in Pakistan, I can only propose this hypothesis; the layers of red tape are not only governmental, but social.

In Pakistan, getting some kind of paperwork done, especially around property (even more so around inheritance) or business is so arduous that people leave their property fallow, if not intentionally then for the sake of their mental health, as dispute can be tied up in the courts for decades, by which time another generation has passed away and the next generation inherits not their property to use but consulted disputes to argue over; a preverbal albatross around the neck of family interactions.

I'm well aware of these realities. Some of my family has had property zoning issues pending in courts which couldn't be expedited unless the judge was bribed. At least we can admit here, this is not simply a matter of corrupt leaders. The whole society is corrupt.

This wasn't always the case. The modern thriving economy you see in India is the result of decades of investment into education, the productivity of the Indian, and even the reverse migration of Indian expats with skills & expertise acquired abroad.

Now the justice system works, now there is less corruption. However, you can't tell me that India never had corruption, nepotism, etc. These problems exist everywhere. What matters is how people navigate it.

Forget India, even Bangladesh has gotten ahead. I've met Bengalis residing in their country, they have ambitious plans for their future despite corruption and other issues. Software startups, partnership investment into textiles, even heavy engineering, etc. What I've noticed about them is that make no excuses and are hard workers.

He buys property in Pakistan.

Yes, the first-generation expatriate will, but the following generation doesn't have much attachment to the country. Example: Out of us five brothers, only I have business links back home due to marriage with a Pakistani origin spouse. Eventually, I will sell and get out as none of my children want to deal with assets there. It's already happened with my father and other relatives. Many of my clients are in the same boat as well.

Lastly, buying property isn't a sustainable growth model for Pakistan.

From a purely investment point of view, investment in property in Pakistan doesn’t make sense. You’ve got currency devaluation at alarming rate.

From a personal/ retirement perspective, as you said, the generations after the migrated parents, do not want to be associated with Pakistan. More so because of the political situation.

My extended family are continuing to sell off their properties in Pakistan and choosing to settle in Dubai along with moving their business. Ofcourse they’d be keeping 1 property in Pakistan just in case, for now.

Calculate the population and 1st gen is more than enough.

If that is the case, why not try to raise money from the diaspora. Sell them prime land near the railways and restructure the national debts? Attract the rich and complement back to run the country themselves.

The following is not my video, but it’s the same idea many people have raised in how to raise the funds on a sustainable basis.

Especially if real estate investment can save the nation.

Btw, Japan railways rents out this kind of land to make their railway operations sustainable and sell tickets at competitive prices.
