Acute shortage of defense tech discussions / threads

There are two important steps that members can take to encourage technical threads ---

1] give enormous thanks to posts and thread starters in warfare sections ..a gesture which on pdf is a rarity as opposed to other fora
2] dont give thanks to trolls on non technical threads and dont support the trolls rather report them irrespective of nationality

e.g with over 20,000 views, 74 posts , this thread has around 20 thanks ---- this is not encouraging --

http://www.defence.pk/forums/land-warfare/99878-standoff-missiles-6.html

most of my threads are like this -- I dont mind much and keep on starting such threads but members who keep track of post to thanks ratio dont post eagerly in such threads

again, we can post some pics ,some data, some news but we need active participation of members to discuss and take the thread to the next level

I agree with you.

I joined this forum for defence related info but everyday I load the site, there are pages after pages of social issues. Its either threads related to defense that are ongoing or very, very few new defence related threads that I see here.

The problem is, that this is not a normal defence site where fanboys of certain fighters hits each other. These discussions also go of into trolling, but mainly wrt to the fighter.
Here we have the problem that the origin of a poster is sometimes more important than what he acutally says. Some Indians will react allergic if a Pakistani points out shortfalls of LCA, just like some Pakistanis don't like Indians to comment on JFT.
So my first suggestions would be to get rid of the country flags at first (maybe location as well), since they don't have any real purpose and will be missused sometimes as well. If you just see the name of a poster and not the flag, you will focus more on what the content of the post is and that without any prejudices. Maybe it's worth to run a test for a week or so and see if it helps.

Hi ANTIBODY, as you know I highly appreciate your threads (not only on this forum), exactly because they are based on technical and well sourced infos. But the reason other threads or posters gets more attention is, the content of the news they post, or the discussion about it. Some of your threads, like the JFT info pool are meant to be info collections, but not for discussions and that's good. But that's also why the actual JFT discussion thread gets more attention, more replies and therefor more thanks as well.
Similarly, when you post a news that is interesting to many people, even though it has no value in technical terms, it will generate more interest and thanks. I know members that purposly post them in extra posts instead of using sticky threads, just to get more thanks :), but as you can see, the rate of thanks is not the point here, but how interesting the content of the post is for the bulk of the members. They will look in the info pool if they have a certain question, or want to look up the latest infos you posted, but the thanks won't make a difference.

P.S. I agree with you that we should use the current vs threads, instead of creating a whole section for it, because this will hit the reputation of the site as well, since such a section will be a magnet for trolls of all kind of origins. Trying to keep certain threads on topic and on real argument basis will be though enough.

Not everyone knows about defense technology... perhaps because civilian members feel they have no need to learn about intricate details and rather a sound knowledge that can provide a basic overview may be enough.

Or a dedicated typhoon vs rafale thread can be started -- I am sure members like @sancho have a lot of info on this subject due to the mmrca competition
We can move these theres in warfare section if members are interested in these topics

We had such a thread, the MMRCA discussion thread, with lot of good infos, but sadly the webby closed it after selection of Rafale, instead of simply re-naming it to Rafale discussion thread.
