Turkey shows interest in JF-17 Thunder

No where; Turkish Air Force hands are full as well, they invested in F-35/purchasing F-16s upgrading most of them, EF-2000 is on offer that mostly likely will take place, very slim chances.

JF-17 is a great aircraft but currently we would have no use for it. Our fleet of Multi-Role F-16s work for everything and our F-4 2020 terminators are our deep strike aircraft(Regular ones are interceptors). We already have 216 F-16s in service and set to receive 30 more F-16s by next year and 116-120 F-35s by 2016-17.Plus more then half the fleet is currently undergoing upgrades to CCIP standard. I am not sure as to where the JF-17 would fall in all this.

I think TAI can manufacture this bird and sale it to its allies , if this block does not fit the TUAF needs then the Next 2 blocks can be custom built to meet all Multirole requirements of Tuaf and Paf.

Even if TUAF does not buy the bird it would become a great business asset for TAI.

There also could be another possibility that JFT team on SinoPak sides are receiving orders and they cant meet the Numerical requirements of those orders and they might get TAI involved as another assembly Location.

Perhaps the emphasis is for R&D not much as to purchase R&D cooperation is highly valued asset

That would be possible TAI could work to upgrade these but that would all depend on Pakistan/China if they want to bring Turkey into the picture.

This seems more likely.

With an increasing Turkish interest in JFT, we now have multiple sources of avionics to equip it with.

1. Chinese

2. Pakistani

3. French (ACM mentioned they are still on)

4. Italians are working for a package to meet our requirements including a new radar

5. Turkish Aselsan avionics are among advanced tools and making various suites and sensors for Turkish f-16s for at least two decades.

So many options available guys that i get confused what we will have and what not. lol

The best is the second one, O yeah thats wat im talkin about

Alhamdolillah its a great news for Pak / turkish pplz....It is also a blessing from Allah(SBWT) that JF17 project is getting appreciation in the Muslim and around the world...Im foreseeing a great future for our aircraft industry and inshallah soon this will dominate the world over.

Turkey's Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said on Wednesday Turkey hoped to cooperate with Pakistan on unmanned aircraft.

"We will now modernize F-16 jets, and we hope to cooperate on unmanned aircraft," Gonul said during his meeting with Pakistan's Minister of Defense Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar in Ankara.

Before their tete-a-tete meeting, Gonul said Turkish and Pakistani defense ministries were cooperating not only in defense industry but also in other military issues.

Gonul said many officers and military students went to Pakistan under a student and officer exchange program between the two countries, and the vice-versa.

Turkey and Pakistan were planning to implement many new defense industry projects, Gonul said.

Wiki is containing outdated info and needs to be updated.....Atucally Typhoon was competeing with JSF and was knocked out. TuAF has gone fwd with JSF but what makes me suspecious is that TuAF is the Level-3 Partner (signed 11 Jun 2002 for $175M) but given the estimated size of program $245 billon.(http://www.f-16.net/news_article1053.html). It highly doubts me that US will allow Turkey to produce 100% of JSF....infact The maintainence of Aircraft will also be done only in US (as per my understanding) and Israel would be the only exception....Jigs? any say on this,,,,

I dont think So TAI would be looking for a production line....reasons
1- A production line is expected in Egypt
2- Malysia also wants a production line
3- PAC has an active one (though filled with PAF order)
4- CAC is active (Serving PAF)
so given the short order of Arzebijan, It would not be logical for TAI to set up new infrastructure for JFT....

why wld turkey go for JF-17 when it has been offered the F-35 litening II ???

Working with Turkey on avionics, ECM/EW and even weapon-systems for JF-17 would be an excellent and far-reaching step forward.

I don't agree that turkey will induct JFT in its current condition.. there are chances of JFT induction in TuAF when it will be equipped with jointly produced better avionics and other techs but again its least expected..

however, sharing knowledge and jointly production of avionics and state of the art weapon techs with turk experts will worth a lot for PAF and our engineers as well as for this project.. I think turkey's main intention here is to assist us and make this project more potent as well as train our engineer with state of the art tech which turks have expertise at..

However, involvement of Turk's in this project is worth a lot for me as it is a breaking news and a great break through in this project. It will bring new life in this projects and our engineers will have lots of advanced things to learn from our Turk brothers..

PS: made my day.. :yahoo:

How would that work though if we wont acquire it would a portion of sales go to us if we start a production line ? It isn't likely for us to start one just to produce it for other places. We are already going to produce F-35s and possibly EFT since we plane on acquiring both.
