Eight F-16s the hurdles and the heartburn

Is AIM 9X is also on Table......?
Instead of buying 8+10 aircrafts, isn't it better to buy whole batch of 18 aircrafts as single purchase? It reduces over all cost......

These F-16s are only being given to Pakistan for ground attack operations against insurgents and militants. US giving Pakistan air-to-air missiles would counter US arguments these F-16s were not India specific. And the noise in Congress would be much louder than it is now.

As for ordering 18 aircraft in one go? Possible if Pakistan had the money. US is already subsidizing the eight F-16s. Where is the money going to come from for the other ten without upsetting Congress even more? Eight was put forward because it was politically and economically viable to do so. The other ten will come later down the line.

Some inside information
Regarding the 8 new F-16s, my source tells me that they are standard Block-52, which upon arrival will be inducted and sent on their mission the next day, so as to speak, it's just not viable to have small batch of aircraft with extra gadgets like the AESA.....then you will need to find and spend millions more on upgrading the rest of the fleet, besides any new system aircraft can't be utilised until you have fully trained and have mastered that platform where as the standard Block-52 will executing their training and combat duties soon after their arrival....the Block-52s have been at the forefront in campaign against the terrorists with results beyond expectations.....the Americans are also well aware of this.
@Bilal Khan 777 , I also queried on the benefits of JHMCS,... the difference is in helmet mounted display and JOINT HMCS, which is now compatible with all our F-16 fleet. It's very effective with Lima and Papa rounds as they can operate up to 45 degrees. Regarding the present situation ,hurdles created and heartburn suffering across the border, my source made an interesting comment, ''While most countries make an effort to climb the ladder, there are some who divert their time, energy and resources in trying to drag others down, thus losing their own goals in process.... such actions inspire us even more and benefit us.....similarly, if the Americans deliver the F-16s, well and good but if they don't we are not at a loss as unlike the 90s, there are other options at our disposal, the US is well aware of this and concious of the fact of losing the market as well as any leverage''. !!

After operation when we dont have use of operation against talibans do u think what will be their role in PAF

To be fair, India does have somewhat of a reason to overreact. Pakistan's newer F16's far surpass anything the IAF has, even the SU30. Combine that with better pilots, and you have a recipe to make India's cold start doctrine fall flat on it's face (as if it wouldn't already).

1. Rafales are on the way.
2. The quality gap between India and Pakistan pilots is narrowing given ongoing modernization of IAF.
3. India's Cold Start doctrine is just that, a doctrine. If Pakistan wants to believe it is true, so much the better.

well pakistan is paying for them...why would we pay a penny for aircraft that aren't going to defend us from invasion that may happen given the history of 1971

why should congress give them , well reality check is that they are best in precision guided bombing and as much as usa need them in afgahnistan , pak need them to defeat terrorists

this would be good both for india pakistan aswell as usa in long run

1. Rafale deal hasn't been signed yet
2. A tool doesn't improve the operator, it's the other way around.
3. I don't think even India themselves believe in the cold start doctrine. It is a bluff, nothing more. And it doesn't seem to be working.

These 8 F-16s have caused a lot of heart burn in neighbor indeed which shouldn't be in the first place. Just waiting for AESA and the scene will be on.

if india doesn't believe in cold start doctrine then why we have done so many military exercises to develop a reply to cold start doctrine and developed short ranged tactical nukes ?every military analyst(not keyboard warriors) starts his discussion with cold start doctrine. it is not just a drama and even if it is then indians have successfully fooled us.

Brother PAF saying they are getting it against use of taliban but we already have 72 f 16 and 50 thunder we can easily utilize them but since they are saying they are getting those 8 jets for operation than after that what u do with them
Hi,

And what kind of question is that?

Or they should have said that we buy them to enhance overall PAF capability not just against terror but any agrresion from our borders but fact is these jets wont be as much as good if we bought SU 35 due to range penetration top of all air superiority and offencive punch in paf

The same role they were maintaining since 1983....defending aerial frontiers of Pakistan and playing their part in the nuclear triad.
Agreed than why PAF saying officialy they are getting for terror ops rather than crystal clear like u

US wont be giving AESA to us ... if they don't have any problems, i'd say after these 18 new block 52's. time to upgrade those block 10/15 MLU's to V standards ..
around 46 F-16V + 36 block 52's .. it will be enough to give IAF a bad nightmare .

US wont be giving AESA to us ...

Indeed, seems not feasible as per current developments.
While looking at all those complaints and heart burns, seems like they knew what is going to happen next.

upgrade those block 10/15 MLU's to V standards ..

If so, even then the scene will on.

Not very clear about that IMO however could be a good approach though I am not seeing them coming in near future as gonna cost a lot and we will be busy with other programs.
