I agree with some of the points that author makes.

Urdu is 90% farsi - I'm always suprised by some Pakistanis who say that they do not speak or understand farsi -- If one reads and writes urdu, one reads and writes farsi and Dari and Pashto for that matter.

To some degree, I agree that Farsi should have been the national language of Pakistan. Allama Muhammad Iqbal felt the same way.

Muse, I disagree with you on the whole "90% Urdu is Farsi" statement. You should have some conversations with people who're fluent in Farsi and you'll see how everything would fly right over your head. You must be confusing it with our national anthem which was written 90% in farsi.

We should introduce Pakistan's one of the most important historical language "Farsi" as a "mandatory" subject in our schooling systems.

I have conversations in farsi with native farsi speakers and with native Dari speakers on a daily basis. The inclusion of new words from English and other languages didnot hamper our convresations.

I too wioll stick with Urdu, Pakistan is neither iran nor Afghanistan nor Tajikistan - with that said, more Pakistanis educated is something to look forward to.

If Farsi would've been our national language, All the mindless entertainment which is a part of our society now (Thanks to our neighbours to the east) wouldn't have been able to infect our people with the "Identity" crisis syndrome.

P.S I have nothing against Urdu as it is my national language and Urdu poetry has inspired me throughout my life. We're just speculating here on the topic of "Farsi as a National Language" so please don't take my posts out of context.

If Farsi would've been our national language, All the mindless entertainment which is a part of our society now (Thanks to our neighbours to the east) wouldn't have been able to infect our people with the "Identity" crisis syndrome.

Blame India on any course!!!! That mindless entertainment was not forced upon you, it was chosen by your own people on which preference of entertaiment.

Didn't blame India. We failed to produce a quality film industry for our own people and that's exactly why we had to settle for your film industry. More than half of our population cannot understand English and that's the reason why the influx of Indian entertainment never stopped. If anything, our own people are to blame in that regard.

And I can call Indian entertainment "Mindless" and that's my opinion so I hope you didn't take it too seriously.

Urdu is NOT 90% farsi! Not even that close! Closer to 20-30% farsi!

Urdu is basically a mix of Sanskrit, Farsi, Arabic, and Turkish (Not Turkey-Turkish, but a Central Asian kind)!
