What's new

Quite a revelation from the FM Abdul Momen.

Of course it is USA.

The price more than likely would be BD jumping into the USA camp against China.

I used to be against this but after China behaviour over Rohingya I am not sure that it would be such a bad thing now.

That would be great to see BD with a more independent approach, and do what is right for the Rohingya.

I doubted BD a few week ago that they would be able to do anything without India or China but good to see some steps now to forge a more confident approach.

BD is loathe to wreck it's economic progress over the Rohingya as it took decades of hard work to get to where it is now. Some people have mistook this for cowardice and/or indifference.

One way or another Rohingya will go back to their homeland in Northern Arakan.

It will be the most foolish decision if we go against China. China is a tested ally and I believe China is more potential ally than USA.

Indeed it will be a bad thing. I am also a strong supporter of independent Arakan, and also want UN to attack miyanmer, and also want them to use Bangladeshi land, so that they ( UN) can make Arakan independent.

But it's not related to Bangladesh and China relationship. I want military relationship with USA, but if it comes at the expense of our relationship with China, then I am against it.

IMHO, China is much more trusted ally than USA.

I am also against BD going into any camp.

Preference is for BD to "man-up" and arm the military properly(mainly BAF) and then sort out the savages. Savages need to be civilised once and for all.

China has totally lost my trust and BD should only deal with them as business partners and buy arms for cash in case it comes to war with India one day.

No Turkey cannot be called "very powerful". I would not even call it "powerful" just yet.
It can only be USA which just wants to buddy up with BD due to confrontation with China.

Well I understand Turkey is not very powerful, but depends on people's perspective, who knows in the FM's mind Turkey is powerful, ofcourse they are very powerful compared to us. I don't see USA threatening or attacking Bamars.

The USA is no one's friend. Dr. Henry Kissinger once uttered, "If the USA is your friend you don't need an enemy". He was the US foreign minister at that time.

The USA has a great geopolitical interest in the BoB region and it may try to bottle up China by denying it access to the Bay. But, it cannot be accomplished just with a war in Arakan. Burma has many other access points for China. So, why the USA should involve itself in a poor region without a purpose? Any war from western countries will certainly be challenged by China.

I believe, it is not even Turkey. It is situated far away and is certainly not able to jut out over the sea to a faraway region. I think it may be nearby Indonesia if the FM is not bluffing. All the wings of the Indonesian military are quite strong.

If it is Turkey(unlikely in my opinion), then they can deploy one of their AWACs and 2-3 squadrons of F-16s in BD to provide air cover. BA and BN can then safely capture Northern Arakhan killing thousands of savages to boot.
Still think that BD would only entertain this if it was USA as China would then stay out of it for sure.

Could be US too, who knows. But I think it's unlikely US will fight a war here for the Rohingya.

I guess it is only me who is embarrassed by this comment. A nation of 165m should not have to rely on anyone to protect its interest.

The nation that the FM meant was not the US. It was Saudi.

Are you sure?

Lol @ Saudi being "very powerful".

That was the FMs description not me. Saudis at the moment have complete immunity to do whatever they want. The trump administration is in their pocket.

From a defense perspective saudi within the trump administration time will go nuclear. And i am fully expecting trump to win next term.

Yes 100% certain and confirmed.

OK. 1 squadron of Typhoon, 1 squadron of F-15 and 1-2 AWACS deployed in BD and then game over for MAF!

Yes I agree with you this is embarrassing for BD.

Donald Trump is coming to save Muslim refugees?

Does that sound out of character for him?

The USA wants more influence in Myanmar to counter Chinese influence there. Not to mention that Donald Trump's far-right Islamophobia shares more similarity with the Buddhist mobs of Myanmar than with the Rohingya refugees.
