BADIN: The situation turned tense in Badin city on Sunday after police reportedly tried to arrest a supporter of former Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza.

According to our correspondent in Badin, police tried to arrest Nadeem Mughal, a supporter of Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, but his colleagues helped him escape.

Shortly after the incident, the former Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader, accompanied by his gunmen, forced shopkeepers to shut down their businesses in Badin city.

Exclusive Geo News video footage showed Dr Mirza reach the local police station where he got into an altercation with the police officer on duty.



The video showed the enraged former home minister breaking the glass table top in the deputy superintendent's office, breaking his mobile phone and hurling abuses at him.

When contacted by Geo News, Dr Mirza said that he had gone to the police station to register a case against what he called the attempted kidnapping of his supporter.
He said that a local politician wanted to ‘kidnap’ his supporter and murder him in a police ‘encounter’.

The situation in Badin city was on edge as PPP supporters came out on the streets in protest of the enforced closure of shops by Mirza's gunmen.

A large number of PPP supporters later gathered outside the police station, demanding that a case be registered against Zulfiqar Mirza.

Indeed, there are two sorts of modus operandi for the Police. One is for the Elite 1% and the other is for 99% Peasants.

As far as the Police doing something, believe me they wouldn't even dare to touch him. This will create unrest, something which the PPP is desperate to avoid.
