Zoroastrian elected to city council in Yazd

dear shahin, your words are true and i believe it too. but as you said religion does not matter in this issue, why today Religion is more important than everything and an Religious man( if we dont say he is just using of religion as a mask) Must decide about everything and no one can even criticize him? as you said it's not important what was the religion of cyrus the great, he is alive in our memories and Religion does not matter.

I just want to know what's your idea.

Religion does matter in my opinion, especially if we are talking about a religion which most Iranians follow these days and goes against ancient Iranian values. Cyrus would turn around in his grave, but who cares? The man did his job, and our ancestors screwed it up 1400 years ago.

Iranians come across (not only on this forum but also in person) as being such a secular, liberal minded people. They also come across as highly intellectual people who are well acquainted with global politics and the need to respect human rights. It is therefore quite confusing to figure out how they manage to live in a theocratic state.

Shits about to hit the fan in this thread:D and think every country should be secular and have equal rights, no matter if one group makes up 99% there is still 1% which are also Iranians and deserve the same rights and not to have another religion thrown on them.

Who cares what he has to say? Zoroastrianism is one of the official religions in Iran, if this guy is unhappy he can get the **** out!

Your ancestors did not screw it up. They fought to death against the Romans for 500 years and grown tried at the last Byzantine-Sassanian war, the Arabs took advantage of the situation.

I think this has even been mentioned in Quran, Surah Rome. It was actually a hope for Muslims, since the two super powers at that time, Rome and Persia, fought each other, and weakened themselves. It actually gave the Muslims, an opportunity to attack Persia and be victorious....And not just any Muslims, the companions of Prophet of God, Muhammad (SAW).

I think you are right about that BUT when you practice this in your own country for minority then you can expect the other do so.
you even do not let us to in your country.

When this 'Sura' (Chapter) was being made, the war was more than 5 years into making. By your logic, the fall of Bagdad was god will to punish Arab for fighting the Crusaders in the Levent.

What are you talking about? there are 30 thousand Iranians in Australia, you mean we don't let people who have been smuggled in, (well actually we do but we wont after the election). And your argument is flawed because you have minorities NATIVE to Iran who don't have there "own country" besides Iran.

Guardian council is an Islamic organization, Iran being 98% muslims and having an Islamic constitution. Do you expect a zoarastrian to join?

Can a muslim, hindu, zoarastrian, even an atheist ever become the president of united states??

You have to appeal to the majority. common sense.

zoarastrian are protected minority in Parliament and are allowed to run for elections. Iran is 100 steps ahead of other muslim countries.

We also have to apply ourselves before we take a public position.

Yes, a Muslim, Hindu, Zoroastrian or atheist is legally eligible to become President of the United States. What gave you the impression that this was not possible?

The only restriction is that the person must have been born in the United States.

In Iran, the ruling regime, a miniscule percentage of the Iranian population bars minorities from becoming the leaders of the nation while in the US the society bars minorities from becoming leaders of the nation. A non-christian WILL NEVER IN A THOUSAND MILLENIA become the president of the US (unless something profound happens that changes the Americans society). In any case the end result is the same.

So she's right.

I thought all Parsis moved to India. Iran still has some? How are they surviving with the theocracy in place?

Not legally. That was the point. She was wrong, and didn't even know that she was wrong.

It is wild speculation to say that in a thousand years, this, that or the other will not happen. Stick to what the constitution of the US allows, and you will do well.

Some nice ones stayed behind. As you well know, the ones who moved were the umm, rovers, wanderers, fiddlefooted people.
