HARARE: Zimbabwe cricket authorities said Thursday they were examining a report on the safety of playing in Pakistan, ahead of what is scheduled to be first tour by a Test-playing nation since a deadly attack on the Sri Lankan team bus.

Zimbabwe are due to arrive in Pakistan on May 22 to play three one-day and two T20 matches.

Security concerns rose further on Wednesday when gunmen attacked a passenger bus and killed at least 43 people in Karachi.

No major international teams have toured Pakistan since militants attacked the Sri Lankan bus in Lahore in March 2009, killing six Pakistani policemen and two civilians.

Six members of the Sri Lanka squad were also injured.

“Zimbabwe Cricket is currently considering a report by its advance team that went to Pakistan last week and returned on Friday,” Lovemore Banda, Zimbabwe Cricket spokesman, said.

Banda would not comment on the contents of the report.

During the advance visit, Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Alistair Campbell expressed confidence that the tour would go ahead.

Zimbabwe announced its 16-man squad this week, but a private daily paper on Thursday said the team should not be put in danger.

“One thing is very clear; Pakistan is not a safe destination to travel to,” the Daily News said. “Pakistan is on fire at the moment.”

We don't have bomb blasts killing off tons of people in our cities. Rapes happen in Pakistan as well except that the stats are disguised to show that the complainants are usually goats or camels. Our rape suspects are caught and tried and if found guilty given the appropriate punishment. Your rape suspects like your terrorists are rarely apprehended and usually live a free life in Pakistan. Let's not start a comparison discussion. I am currently in Zimbabwe and the media here aren't mincing their words when it comes to their perception of how safe Pakistan is. In fact I was chuckling just this morning when I read one of the articles in the Daily News which questioned why the match between Zim and Pakistan couldn't be held in India as a measure of safety. No go digest that before you go on some tangent about India. Simply put in the eyes of the international community, you are no comparison to us. In their eyes you are a danger to yourself and to the world. That reflects even in a waste of a country such as Zimbabwe. No media here has ever given such a condescending report on India. In fact no media in any sane country has.

For starters, look at the situation in Pakistan since those teams visited years ago. The situation is abnormal since then. If you insist on denying it, that is your issue.
