It is about time that Pakistan mend fences with these three countries without giving away our interests.

Thank God now we all realized that we are neighbors and our interests lie are somewhat intertwined.

We need to focus on our relations with Russia as well as Tajikistan. We can't go by avoiding the largest country of the planet sitting right on top of our head!!

.
About time Pakistan should realize that neighbors are here to stay where as foreign power will move in and out as per their interest. The world is no more into cold war and playing power blocks is not beneficial especially for smaller nations. We should learn lesson from neutrality of Sweden.

It will be an official visit of the president to Russia next week, president’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said.
Friday, 13 Aug, 2010

ISLAMABAD: After strong criticism of his visit to France and the United Kingdom at a time when the nation was coping with the worst flood, President Asif Ali Zardari has decided to cut short his visit to Russia.

According to the presidential spokesman, President Zardari has cut short his visit because of flood situation in the country and he will now visit Russia for only a few hours instead of two days.

The president will reach Moscow on August 18 and will return to Pakistan the same night, the spokesman explained.

He is likely to sign a much-delayed anti-drug trafficking agreement, which is being opposed by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

The agreement, which was scheduled to be signed between Pakistan and Russia last year, is expected to be given the final nod by President Zardari during his visit.

.
Why can't he reschedule the visit? Pakistan is facing a huge natural calamity and the president is on visits to foreign countries?

I don't see him signing any ground breaking agreements that can't be postponed!

.
Why Zardari? This guy will ruin the potential that Pakistan could have. Also this is humiliating that head of our state visit some country and they treat him 22grade officer. Zardari must not go, let people who qualify for the meeting reach there.

Zardari would rather make time to introduce his son and daughter to leaders in UK and France. The visit to Russia is important and he should visit threse three countries in the near future.

Zardari curtails Russia visit to few hours - Hindustan Times

Islamabad, August 13, 2010

Stung by criticism of his decision to travel to Europe at a time when Pakistan is grappling with the worst floods in its history, President Asif Ali Zardari has decided to curtail an upcoming visit to Russia to only a few hours. Zardari's original schedule was to visit Russia two days to
participate in a quadrilateral summit of heads of state of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Russia convened by the Russian government.

Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar on Friday said Zardari had curtailed his visit in view of the devastating floods in the country.

The summit on regional security at Sochi in Russia was finalised several weeks ago.

In view of the natural disaster, Zardari has cut his visit short to just a few hours to only attend the summit on August 18, Babar said.

The President will not participate in the lunch hosted in honour of the heads of state and will return Pakistan the same day, he said.

Zardari was criticised by opposition political parties and the media for travelling to Britain and France at a time when millions of people have been affected by unprecedented floods.

The media particularly played Zardari's visit to his family's country home in France to meet his ailing father.

The President has defended his decision to go ahead with his visit to Europe, saying it helped to mobilise aid for victims of the floods.

Russia is royally pissed off due to increasing encirclement by USA and we have a good chance on political chessboard to invite them into Afghanistan as stablizing force. Also China and India are closer to Russia and a good Russo_Pakistani alliance will keep check on american ambitions in south asia.

.
What he will do there??Is he really serious about the meeting or is it yet another lavish trip??
