Yemeni Forces Destroy UAE Warship

Why would such a vessel necessitate the use of CIWS when it is on a humanitarian mission to deliver aid? The vessel allegedly used its Mark 36 SRBOC chaff dispensers.

In video don't look like that it used chaff dispanser, in hostile areas every ship should have protection on board or off board from air born threats. UAE should have send war ships with it.

.
Furthermore, I'd like to point out that there is little to suggest as to what was the ultimate fate of the vessel. Houthi media claimed "total destruction", but several developments contradict this claim:

1. The Saudi military claimed that they rescued survivors from a damaged (rather than sunk) vessel: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/re...tml?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

2. An analysis of the footage shows that the missile struck the top portion of the vessel, rather than the waterline which would have elicited far greater damage: http://www.eastpendulum.com/hsv-2-swift-coule-missile-c802

In video don't look like that it used chaff dispanser, in hostile areas every ship should have protection on board or off board from air born threats. UAE should have send war ships with it.

Humanitarian vessels usually forgo military escort to maintain their image of neutrality and the pacifist nature of their mission.

If there had been military vessels present to ward of such attacks, the missile would have likely never made it to the Swift in the first place, at the very least without some defensive fire.

Why does this topic open in iran section? Isn't yemen a arab war?:-)

.
Why it didn't had CIWS for protection?
It was never fitted with Phalanx CIWS. In US service she had a single 25mm M242 Bushmaster chain gun, a 40mm MK19 Automatic Grenade Launcher, a single 40mm Mk 45 'Snake Eye' grenade launcher and 4 12.7m M2 Browning heavy machine guns.

Why would such a vessel necessitate the use of CIWS when it is on a humanitarian mission to deliver aid? The vessel allegedly used its Mark 36 SRBOC chaff dispensers.
Can you show a pic where she carries SRBOC?

The secondary explosions could have been of fuel, flammable compounds, on-board defensive ammunition (the Swift carries 25 mm ammunition for its defense autocannons), or a plethora of possibilities. There is zero evidence that this vessel was transporting materiel or weaponry at the time of the attack.
Recent photo's show her unarmed. Please provide pic showing otherwise.

Yeah, and bombing poorest country in ME and north Africa with fancy American weapons and killing 10,000 civilians is a huge achievement. Well done to Yemenis, they are defending themselves against aggressor states.
No, that takes effort actually.

I was under the impression that the Swift is normally equipped with Mk. 96 stabilized gun system and chaff dispensers. If there were recent changes to her armament prior to the UAE lease, then I would be glad to acknowledge that.

Either way, it doesn't change the fact that nobody realistically expects such a vessel to withstand an AShM. The Houthis are touting this attack as some sort of military achievement whereas the actualities speak otherwise.

Couldn't say it any better.

The ship, which is owned by the UAE’s National Marine Dredging Company, was attacked as it sailed through the Bab Al Mandeb Strait. http://www.thenational.ae/uae/uae-civilian-ship-hit-by-houthis-in-terror-act

It didn't occur to you that I was talking about the technical capability of a missile, not this conflict in general?
You guys really love taking the victim role.

Goodmorning hot tempered friend. Had you read my post proper, you would have seen I do not claim it to be an aid ship. Those are words used by Al Arabiya. I merely pointed out that on the basis of the nighttime footage shown in a previous post, one cannot determine what its cargo was. And that even seemingly harmless supplies like milkpowder, flour and sugar have explosive potential.

If you didn't have a get night sleep or are chranky simply because you didn't get some last night, please go back to bed. Don't start with me again.

Could be non lethal military supplies or really aid for PR activities in Yemen

If it causes a caution on part of the navies of the GCC and keeps them from shore; I believe that is an achievement on its own.

That being said, I believe the issue occurred during DS and the presence of silkworm batteries by Iraq if I am not mistaken. If the GCC had slightly better fighting sense, sending that ship in those areas along with better Intel would have had air ops carried out to first eliminate the SSM launchers before sending that ship into the area.

The GCC commanders have made the mistake of assuming that they are fighting just rag tag tribesmen whilst forgetting the well reported presence of Iranian intel and Iranian trained personnel within those ranks.
Once they change their gears towards a different fight, they will have much better success against the Houthi resistance and mop it up pretty quick.

What about the well reported presence of Americans and British providing Intel, target and weaponry, are you saying all of them miscalculated the Houties and the Iranians?

19 February 2016. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Navy is using the port of Assab in Eritrea, Airbus Defence and Space satellite imagery confirms. The 7 November image also shows that the high-speed roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) catamaran Swift 1 (IMO: 9283928) was also present.

From Assad to Aden and back means 2 passages through the Strait where she was hit.

Quite possibly. The lack of initial naval blockade to the Area of Operations left the Iranians a lot of opportunities to sneak in arms ,ammunition and operatives.
