Xiaomi unveils its new flagship smartphone, the Mi 4, with a metal frame

In Hongkong, 500 USD for Ipad Air 16GB Wifi ... they earn less ?
HKer earn more than ppl in mainland of China, and HongKong is the tax free region, no import tariff.

But China add import tariff into Ipad Air price, although Ipad produced in China it's still a foreign import commodity.

Except cheaper foreign goods, living cost in HongKong is higher than live in mainland of China, specially their house price.much higher than ours. When Chinese live in their 100m2 house and complain house price reach 10,000RMB/m2, those HKers r enjoying the cheapest 80,000RMB/m2 a 60~70m2 (normal 100,000RMB/m2) house in HongKong.

In HongKong u earn more and pay more, of course HKer can buy more foreign goods than in mainland of China.

China regulator determines Qualcomm has monopoly: state-run newspaper

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's antitrust regulator has confirmed that Qualcomm Inc, one of the world's biggest mobile chipmakers, has a monopoly, the state-run Securities Times newspaper reported on Thursday, as Qualcomm's chief executive held talks in China.

The regulator, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), is investigating Qualcomm's local subsidiary after it said in February the U.S. chipmaker was suspected of overcharging and abusing its market position In wireless communication standards, allegations which could see it hit with record fines of more than $1 billion.

The Securities Times report, based on unidentified sources it said were close to the NDRC, did not say whether the regulator had determined that Qualcomm had abused its monopoly.

The newspaper said Qualcomm was charging lower royalties for patents to undercut competitors who have similar technology and maintain market share. The report also said that Qualcomm, as the only provider of chips for high-end phones, can dictate those licensing fees.

Qualcomm CEO Steven Mollenkopf, who launched a $150 million "strategic venture fund" in China on Thursday, declined to take questions from reporters. A Qualcomm spokeswoman traveling with Mollenkopf also declined to comment.

The NDRC declined to provide immediate comment when contacted by telephone.

The Securities Times report said the NDRC was probing Qualcomm's local sales data and that Qualcomm President Derek Aberle has been communicating with the NDRC over issues relating to the anti-monopoly investigation.

"The NDRC anti-monopoly investigation is extremely serious," the Securities Times quoted the sources as saying.

"It's not just Qualcomm under investigation but also its customers, and (the NDRC) has sealed off a lot of documentation."

While Qualcomm's share of patents relating to wireless network technology standards for mobile communications has fallen, their prices haven't changed, the report said.

Under China's six-year-old anti-monopoly law, the NDRC can impose fines of between 1 and 10 percent of a company's revenues for the previous year. Qualcomm earned $12.3 billion in China for its fiscal year ended September 29, or nearly half of its global sales.

Qualcomm has previously said it is cooperating with the investigation.

The company says support for the international FD LTE standard will come before the end of the year, so it seems like the phone may delayed going on sale outside of China.
Oh damn it. I think i will have to order one from China, if im not able to lay my hands on it here in India. I used to own a Meizu M8 back in the days. Wonder what happened to that company?

BEIJING, China -- Apart from announcing the new Xiaomi Mi 4, Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun pulled a "one more thing" at the press conference and announced a new fitness band. The Xiaomi Mi Band is the company's first wearable gadget, and comes with a set of nifty features that are pretty impressive.

The Mi Band will retail for the ridiculously low price of just 79RMB (which converts to $13, £7.5, AU$13.5). It has a 30 day battery life, which is impressive compared to some of the smartwatches and fitness bands on the market today. It also doubles up as a discrete alarm clock.

Another cool feature that was announced is its ability to work as a proximity security unlock for your Xiaomi smartphone. If you hold your phone in the same hand as you're wearing the band, the phone will automatically unlock without requiring a password. It will not work if you're holding the phone in your other hand.

Global availability was not revealed.

Other than waking you up and unlocking the phone this band doesnt do any other thing. It does not even feature a LED screen, you cannot compare it with other smartwaches out there in the market. I could have went for it if it could have feature even a small screen.

Micromax needs to up its game else its finished.

This phone is too cheap to ignore while having the best specs the market has to offer at this moment.

RedMi Note alleged to be sending photos and sms to China servers secretly
July 19, 2014 | Posted in Mobile News | No comments

The 小米 XiaoMi and 紅米 RedMi phones have been hot sellers in China and in South East Asia lately. Most of it are sold out in seconds on their website which operates only for 5 minutes per week. The proclaimed sales is largely due to it’s low price and better specifications than the competitors.

Lately, a Taiwanese internet media has uncovered that the RedMi Note is actually sending data back to a server hosted in China behind the scenes.

A Hong Kong discussion group IMA Mobile user Kenny Li discovered that his RedMi Note has been connecting to an IP in China and transferring data back to the server when he is operating in Wi-Fi mode. When he is on 3G, it is just a handshake (low data transmission).

So what is being sent to the servers? A firmware update is perfectly Ok. What surprises the tester is that even if you root the phone and flash it with another firmware, the background transmission continues. It seems that the process is hard coded into the phone.

According to his observation, the RedMi seems to be sending pictures from MEDIA STORAGE. On top of that, your SMS and messages also gets channeled through the Chinese servers. It looks like XiaoMi is ‘helping’ users to automatically make a backup of your data on their servers.

NO SCREEN. That's how the battery last so long.

Can anyone tell me what are the SAR values of Xiaomi phones??

Yes, meizu is quite early, but Xiaomi's success probably is due to it's marketing strategy and proper company governance. Their product is very similar.

This article says Meizu will come back.
融资+股权激励:魅族也走在了开放的路上_网易科技
I hope they do. They had the early start advantage but they imitated Apple from the very start. Now it's kind of hard to gain any substantial ground in the smartphone arena with so much competition. They will have to come up with some out of the box marketing strategy.

better they built the mi band function including in bluetooth headset

These are just fancy toys,,,bluetooth is shit for music listening.
For anyone serious about music,,,bluetooth is absolutely no no,,,at least till the tech evolves further
