Xiaomi disappoints customers in Brazil launch
By Angelica Mari for Brazil Tech | July 10, 2015 -- 15:42 GMT (23:42 GMT+08:00) |

Xiaomi let customers down in Brazil as it couldn't meet the online demand for the smartphone Redmi2 in a launch "sales event" held earlier this week.

Purchasing of the device was only available to customers who had registered on the Xiaomi website a week before. The company launched its transactional website on Tuesday (7) but the smartphones sold out within a couple of hours.

To kick off its operations in Brazil, Xiaomi has chosen to only sell the Redmi2 model, which retails at R$500 ($156) and can be paid for in ten installments of R$54,90 ($17,20). The first batch of smartphones was imported but Foxconn will be manufacturing the devices locally.

  • Customers also complained on social networks about having difficulty to access the website and not receiving order confirmations.

The local provider for the platform also supplies the e-commerce infrastructure to major Brazilian retailers such as Americanas.com and Submarino, B2W Digital, is looking into what has caused the issues.

Xiaomi will be holding its sales events online on a weekly basis and Brazilian users can already register for the next opportunity to buy the Redmi2 on the company's website.

The massive demand for Xiaomi's phone follows recent research by IDC that predicts a slowdown in smartphone sales in Brazil, caused by factors including an increase in prices to final consumers. However, the Chinese manufacturer is confident that it will thrive even in these conditions as it keeps prices low by selling online directly to consumers.

The launch events should be better managed. I guess website was crushed due to heavy demand. Nonetheless, they should be ready for it if they are to continue with this sort of flash sales.
True, here there are 2 brands in major competition Mi (China) and Micromax (India) there phones come out the websites rundown plus both sell there phones (First editions) only on one website here, Flipkart

@TaiShang Also they have come up with a good new system to avoid such breakdowns, that is selling the phones only once in a week and only to those who have invite codes. What they do is ....... People apply to get invite codes, the codes are sent to only some selected applicants, who are selected randomly and only they can buy the phone when it is out for release on a single day. It saves the Rush

Yes. I guess that's also being utilized in Brazil now. Same as in China.

Who cares if the products are good enough and the prices are low enough。

Don't let the blood suckers(read:Apple) make off with your hard-earned cash。

How is the MiUi.
Personally I only like the Sense UI or pure Android. Samsung's UI is so ugly. It scared me away.
UI is good(Read does not lag), simple and easy to use. It's not garish like Samsung and almost less bloatware.

I put it straight to business, mainly reading emails, using skype and reading pdfs, so I don't care much about what wrapper they have put over the stock OS, it should be aesthetically pleasing and should not lag.

When will those guys start shipping to Europe? My contract is up in about 9 months. I think I'm ready to go Chinese:) Perhaps Huawei then, they already sell here. Scumbag Dutch providers: pricing the Huawei as high as the iPhone etc.
