I agree that an independent EU would be tantamount to a more balanced international system, which would not go against the interests of Russia or China. Although it is rather unconceivable to think of the EU freed from the US securitized regime.

Once China clearly becomes the technological and financial leader, you will see a lot of these alliances start wavering. The weaker nations always hedge their bets. Their loyalty is primarily opportunistic and they are always checking to see where the wind is blowing.
