Face it, East Asian countries and regions are all doing very well in this pandemic. Why it's so hard to accept that the West are not that superior after all.
Different experiences have shaped different perceptions to a potential threat. East Asia have experienced SARS before and have been preparing since then.
When we heard of an unknown pneumonia in Wuhan, the first thing came to the public's mind is SARS. The plans were already in the drawers before the threat arrived, and we just take them out depending on the situation.

In the West (or at least in the US), the first thing they think of is the seasonal flu or the swine flu. That's what many Americans told me back then in other forums when we were 'overreacting'.
