Would India allow US to use military bases?

Pakistan moving towards Russia. China getting closer to Russia every passing day.

So will it be Russia, CHina,Pakistan and their allies vs US-Nato and India in world war III

IF this is true, I doubt it, not only because of the source, it's saying India will open essentially intelligence and communication channels to the US and share air bases for US as well as land bases as long as the US does the same, which I have no idea why India would base fighters and men in the US or US territories and bases, but fine.

actually, its not like that.we don't have desire to base our aircraft in USA,but some strategic offshore base would do good.but its going to be real headache for China.USA covertly flew Intelligence missions against China using IAF base before..looks like Sino-India and Sino-Myanmar border is going to be busy.

but its not basing aircraft/ships permanently.in fact,USN had access to our bases for logistic support for long time..don't know whats the news in it.

India is to throw open its military, air and naval bases to the US. In return India can use the US military facilities including communication setup. India can also get US to fight alongside it in case of a war. This move was mooted during UPA time and it was shot down by allies then like the Left parties. Defence Minister Antony too had vetoed it saying that it would compromise security of India. These clauses would come under the renewal of Defence pact signed in 2005. Under this pact, US had supplied India around $10 billion worth arms.

US had given draft of the agreements that offer sharing of communication, logistical support and cooperation of basic information. Sharing of communication would give US access to India’s secured communication systems. The advantage the defence ministry argues is that in turn Indian ships can get real time information through US networks which is not possible today. NDA ministry terms these agreements as just making it formal for an arrangement that is operational. It points out that Indian ships in Gulf waters do refuel from US ships in sea and neither countries have objected. Now that US has shifted base to Asia, India is seen as a partner by US.

Modi has told the defence ministry to complete the paperwork before Obama’s visit and get ready to push it through. Critics say that giving US the right to use Indian soil for their military adventures in Asia could take away the non aligned stance policy.

As the new regime in Sri Lanka has not dumped China and restoring all rights to ex-Army Chief Sarath Fonseka who led the army against Tamils and a pro-China man, India feels that it is time that the paranoia towards US be dropped. Left parties that were against the agreement are marginalized. Reactions from China and Russia to this new agreement have to be watched.

This was being mooted since 2003. @Joe Shearer sir I'm sure you must be knowing about it. :)
One,US always wanted a neutral territory in Asia from where it can have easy access to middle east and south-eastern countries.

Two, the Indian Navy has proved already that it can fix and fuel US ships. Over time port visits must become a natural event. India is a viable player in supporting all naval missions, including escorting and responding to regional crises. It all began with naval cooperation in the Straits of Malacca during op enduring freedom.
But India has always been adamant that India would consider technology transfer as an important component for a robust military relationship between the two countries. This was the hurdle so far.
US's denial had costed India several delays like in case of LCA project and also after 1998 nuclear sanctions several Sea King naval helicopters were grounded merely because America denied critical components.

Three, we were never too happy with Russian tech. Yes, Russia has been our all weather friend but now that Russia has thawed its relations with Pak and China, it becomes necessary for India to secure its position.
But opening up base in India would also mean that from now Indo - US relation would mature and it will be an "adult to adult" relationship. Indian secret agencies have helped US agencies and tipped them about Taliban, OSL and Al-qaeeda but so far America has always disappointed when it comes to Indian interests.
Obama's recent statement about Pak is a proof to our maturing relationship.
We might soon see Indian officers being sent to America for tech training courses.

But they are never great or regional power. India trying to be a regional power by allowing US/foreign military presence for strategic uses is devaluing herself.

In that case, India will never be a great power.

But according to many Indian journalist, India will be a superpower by 2020. It's former president even state that India will be a superpower by 2012.

I personally don't think US should post any soldierin India. But if we do, male soldiers only. We do not want harassment of our servicewomen.

US only have adult to adult relations with other countries

I just repeated what the article says. Headache for us? Why, cause Japanese, Korea, and Pakistan as well as Middle East and Thailand bases are too far from China? lol

Are you just looking for any excuse to start something, essentially using this article, which you yourself don't agree, to do it. At least use an article you think has merit.

The US can do anything it wants, they have the capability, Chinese realize it, but due to multiple reasons, I don't think Indians do, you do, but not really.

But what would you do if Indian male soldiers are posted in US?

I'm not so sure, US always wants an upper hand in every relation it shares with other countries.

With India it will be different. Unlike other countries with whom US had upper hand were mostly its client states. India is different, and it will be hard for US to arm twist India given its size. What brings India and US closer is security and individual national interests.

Wonder why Pakistan didn't come up with a counter offer for the US?.

The US has a huge presence in pakistan already - see the size of consulates and embassies they operate in pakistan. They could easily have used their territory as they have been doing all this while. In fact I suspect they already do it with clandestine approval for all the billions they offload in Pakistan.

Because there is a civilian set up in Pak now .. The US had one base (shamsi- in the baluchistani remote region bordering Afghanistan -- was use for drone strike operations and closed years ago after intense public pressure) .. No govt will offer anyone any bases now.. As for "heavy" US presence that's BS.. Even their CIA station Chiefs Bac a tough time living here ... Several times "somebody" (ehm Intel agencies) reveal their names to media and they have to leave in urgency.. But yes Intel sharing etc between CIA & ISI etc isn't a new thing .. Infact that's pretty common ..(reads Interview with an SSG operator- posted by my brother Irfan Baloch).

Ofcourse!
It took America more than a decade to convince India and that speaks volumes.

Does it mean that our Indian friends will soon start playing baseball?

Especially those who live near US military bases?:D

Good new, India finally follow US eccentric leading the world, India just scratch their regional power ambition and follow the US only superpower in this world. Congrats India.

India can't gain their regional ambition anyway, better to tag along the top dawg in this world.

With daddy US support, India not to fear anyone.

India decides to become US colony interesting move I must say. China and India after this will have more hostility towards each other

US has huge influence across the world. India doesn't have the direct lever with Pakistan to curtail its anti-India activities. India can use US influence to tame Pakistan. Then there are UNSC membership, NSG membership etc.. which are impossible to get unless we have US on our side

It is not in India's nor US interest for enmity with China. China is a growing power and good relations with China are very important for both US and India, but at the same time, India should make sure that China influence doesn't grow too much in our region and US-India relations can act as a hedge against it.

because, this is entirely a new front.India retired its last Spy Aircraft 10 years ago.Myanmar was ally to China.in fact,China based majority of its Offensive/Defensive weapons in its Eastern region, close to SCS.USA tried multiple times to crack this Indo-Sino border,as well as Sino-Myanmar border, which has merit for both Spying as well as Espionage missions.but both these 2 countries were main opponent of this plan.India helped USA only for a small period, while Myanmar was non compliance.

before rubbishing any comment and looking down to a member's comment and his country, you better start reading about US attempts to Spy China using this region..
