'Aghori's are those who as per belief goes to such a height in their 'sadhana', so that all the surrounding things loses difference in their eyes, for e.g. they can eat anything (irrespective of wheather it is eatable or not), drink anything, stay anywhere, nothing can cause any affection or repulsion in them. Probably their way of religion is a branch of Tantraa, which is itself an evolution of mixture of Buddhist and Hindu

so you are justifying cannibalism? BTW Aghoris have nothing to do with Buddhism. Aghoris is a 500 year old totally Hindu sect. Your are bring in Buddhism to dilute a totally reprehensible Hindu practice.

Worshippers carrying a human skull dance along the streets of Bardhaman, India, as part of a festival which appeases a Hindu deity.

Startling photographs show residents of the city taking to the streets dressed in bright colours and holding on to several skulls.

The Hindu devotees were also carrying a sword as part of the the Gajan Festival, which is commonly celebrated in West Bengal at this time of year.

Onlookers stood on their doorsteps, on the side of the street and outside shops, pulling out their phones to capture the incredible display.

A few selected men, wearing flowers around their necks and ornate head accessories, were chosen to carry the skulls and often held them high above the crowds.

The week-long Gajan Festival is mostly celebrated in West Bengal and is associated with Hindu deities such as Shiva, Neel and Dharmaraj.

According to photographer Avishek Das, on the last day of the Bengali Calendar, in the middle of April, devotees worship dead bodies to satisfy Lord Shiva for better rain and harvest, a 100-year-old traditional practice.

The central theme of the pre-harvest festival is satisfaction through non-sexual pain, devotion and sacrifice.

Shining India! No doubt they will get a free pass in the west. Just switch the religion and watch it go viral all over the world. Makes you wonder.

I just stated the facts, neither criticiaing, nor justifying. You should know the history of Tantraa culture, though it has a trace in Vedic and pre vedic era, its final form is derived from mix up of buddhism (Vajrayan) and hinduism, there are numerous proof of it.
Where did they get human heads? Do these people bury their dead?
Probably from open air crematorium of remote villages.

People who celebrate "Halloween" should not comment on other people's customs.

IF that tribal was to go to the US he would be shocked to see people dress up as monsters and celebrating demons.

On another note, Where did they find the SKULL ? Did they rob some Muslim Grave to get it ?

Some do bury their dead(in a sitting position)...The graves are called shomadhis...children below 5 are also buried...at least that is the practice here in Bangladesh.

There are hundreds of form of this rituals, walking with human skull is not a part of majority of them. Though this is not so catchy in the eyes of outsiders, it is neither to be proud of nor of shame, everyone take it just as a ritual, still much better than killing, torturing or converting people in the name of religion.

Yes your right. This ritual is still better than distributing people into a racist caste system and running a systematic pogram to kill, rape, murder and subdue them just because they belong to a lower caste.More over lynching and killing people for eating beef , honor killings,Love Jihad, ghar wapsi just to name a few all in the name of Religion.

One cannot just go and grab a burning head from the Crematorium. There would be relatives who would bash you head in if you try to desecrate a funeral pyre.

in Any case those heads look partially decomposed, and not burnt.

Samadhi burial is only for saints, sadhu's etc. when they die during Samadhi. For normal death, they are burnt.

Looks like it a mixing of their tribal rituals and Hinduism they did not kill the people whose skulls they holding let them carry on
shocking ritual...beneath good taste,logic and reasoning....Highly dissapointed
If they did not kill the people head they carry what's wrong some tribes have those shrunken heads its a tribal ritual with Hinduism thrown in

Aghori's are basically from Hinglaj Mata Shakti Peth from pakistan.

Hinglaj Mata is their chief initiation deity.

Also Aghori, practice Aghori Yoga and not Tantra. Its a common misunderstanding since their terrible look and unique practices make people to associate them with Tantra.

How are Indians in this forum openly defending and supporting these rituals??? is your screw lose? and stop trying to deflect it with “atleast they ain’t killing or forcing people to convert“ bs, cant come with a justification so you deflect it to Islam, when ps. Islam openly denies the killing of innocent and encourages people to practise their own religion, but ig your small brains won’t get it.

where do they get these mummified heads from?
if not killed then grave robbery or stealing corpses from morgues?

If it is grave robbery then it is wrong i saying this could be like those shrunken heads that some tribes have then i see it as a tribal ritual . To me it looks weird because im not from that tribe and neither Hindu but if it a old custom and no crime been committed the state has no reason to stop it

I just looked up this festival and it turns out to be a strange mix of Buddhism, hinduism and Islam.

Its referenced in Bengali literature Shunya Puran (literally meaning "No history" or "story of Nothingness")

I was not aware that this needed "defending" from Indians.

WHO is ATTACKING this ?
