Worldmap that shows which countries think is the threat for world peace

A lot of ethnic Chinese have founded big companies in America, but they are still American companies.

Not much good for us I'm afraid.
I know but the stereotype is that "Asians don't think outside the box" which is not true.

If you are talking about ethnic Chinese then Taiwan has many big IT companies. But the problem is China has very little soft power.

lol just chill and relax said article, it's a joke, if you are too serious into that, then you are already lost.

Yep soft power is a big problem.

The British Empire followed by the American superpower made English the dominant global language.

So of course English-language media (controlled mostly by the West) is dominant in the world today.

Soft power is great, but honestly China needs hard power (economy/military) first. Without hard power, soft power is nothing, as we found out during the Century of Humiliation.

English is alot easier to learn and requires less brain power to actually use so thats a benefit. And soft power is the only real power you can use when your against powerful nations the only time hard power could be used by China is if it invaded Bhutan.

Their website says they are based in California.

Anyway here is the original poll:

Why is the west seen as the greatest threat? - The Guardian

"A recent Gallup survey of respondents from 65 countries suggests that America is now seen as the country that poses the "greatest threat to world peace today". In fact, more people picked the US than Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea and Pakistan combined."

@senheiser

Lol even the Ukrainians think US is a threat to the world peace.... Even when the seem hell bent to save them from " Russian aggression" and safeguard the " Democracy"...
Though couldn't understand why the Romanians and Italy fear Iran....
Even more Germany, Sweden and Finland consider US as a threat to world peace....
Its 2013 poll, before the recent events.

Soft power is meaningless against powerful nations. Hard power (economy/military) is what matters the most.

Think about this, the USA and the Philippines have a "mutual defense treaty", which is as high as it gets, in terms of a promise to defend another nation.

Then in 2012, China seized the Scarborough shoal from the Philippines. The Philippines lost territory to China.

What did America do? Nothing, they just asked if they could borrow more money from us.

What made them refuse to help their treaty ally from losing territory? Soft power? In these situations soft power means nothing. It's all about economy/military/nukes, that is REAL deterrence.

If we had no real economy, no military and no nukes, you can bet the USA would have rode in to save their treaty ally (Philippines) from losing territory. Instead of abandoning their mutual defense treaty.

Well, as I said, they were based in CA, USA because facebook were not available in HK at that time.

Also Rumor from 9Gag own Raymond Chan saying they are going to IPO 9Gag in HK, don't know if that is true or not tho, maybe just a hype

And more importantly, if you click the link on the guardian site, it will bring you to an International Business Time website said such poll exist and without mentioning where it was. I want to look at the poll myself to see who in Italy think Portugal is a more serious threat of World Peace lol

Soft power comes from hard power. Obstacle posed by language can be overcome quite easily too. For instance, South Korean entertainment industry dominated much of Asia pacific in a very short period of time. The fact that population of those countries didn't speak Korean wasn't an obstacle and actually because of entertainment industry, a lot of people now have started to learn Korean too. But quite frankly Chinese must be the hardest language in the world.

Very true.

China is still a developing country though, so it will take a while to build up a decent amount of hard power. After that, we might be able to attain some soft power. But with the world as it is (English-language media domination), our gains in terms of soft power will always be limited.

That's just something we'll have to accept.

But as long as we can protect our sovereignty, anything else is just a bonus as far as I'm concerned. Would love to have the bonus, but we can live without it.
