UK companies are being warned by US partners not to cosy up to Huawei or ZTE due to ongoing worries at government level on the other side of the pond over the two Chinese companies.

The CEOs of two telecoms companies based in Cambridge admitted that US partners indicated that if they start to work together with Huawei or ZTE then they would have no choice but to abandon partnerships with the UK-based companies involved.

“Our American customers have made it clear to us that we cannot deal with Huawei or ZTE if we want to keep dealing with them – full stop,” one CEO, who wished to remain anonymous, told Business Weekly.

Another CEO added that its “partners in the States have no choice because of their government’s intransigence,” and they have been told “if it’s Huawei it’s the highway for you.”

Huawei has been plunging cash into the UK’s Internet of Things [IoT] sector in recent years including a new £125 milion chip and R&D lab in Bristol, £1.3 billion in investment across the country and the $25 million [£15 million] acquisition of Cambridge-based Neul.

As part of that acquisition Huawei has committed to constructing an IoT “centre of excellence” in the city and Neul’s “weightless” technology will be at the centre of this.

The US, however, is incredibly wary of Huawei and its counterpart ZTE and the two are banned from tendering for US government contracts due to worries over spying and espionage – something the Chinese businesses have been at pains to deny.

Europe has also expressed misgivings about state aid being used by China to assist Huawei and it has only just come to an agreement with the country’s government over what subsidies can be provided to the companies, which are heavily involved in Europe.

US misgivings over Huawei won’t slow its expansion in the UK and it remains to be seen whether UK companies choose to work with the Chinese firm instead of their current US partners.

this is indeed, worrying for us we are always open to Foreign investments/ business opportunities irregardless of the country. However we do take our security very carefully , reason why any critical ellectronic product being used in our national broadband infrastructure /telecommunication is always been analyzed and screened diligently to every detail. we did this with Huawei and many other companies before allowing them to operate. So i think the U.S shouldn't be worr y about this, they are still our largest security partner,. Moreover our government is not foolish enough to allow such equipments to be used without proper vetting/ screening. Business is business, politics is politics. it should remain that way for us to prosper.

wish we would do the same in india too. ban the spyware companies. we can cooperate. us-ind. safer in the long run for us. us knows that by now.

Telecom network vendor Huawei in association with Etisalat showcased the future concept of 5G mobile broadband services at the GITEX Technology Week in Dubai.

Huawei has become the first telecom equipment supplier to present 5G technology in the Middle East region.

The commercial operation of 5G telecommunication services is expected to be launched by 2020.

It is estimated that the 5G technology will provide 1,000 times more capacity than current mobile broadband networks.

Etisalat chief technology officer Hatem Bamatraf said: “It is already clear how this technology will have a fundamental impact and on transforming the ICT industry. We are able to demonstrate how 5G will transform daily lives for millions of mobile users.”

Huawei said the interactive 5G demo showcased an 115Gbps data transmission rate capability:enjoy:. Emerging segments such as the Internet of Things (IoT), 4D film, MirrorSys and Vehicular Telematics will benefit from 5G.

“The development of 5G broadband services is a step-change for the telecommunications industry. It will also enable more efficient, seamless, safe and enriched communication experiences,” said Yang Chaobin, chief marketing officer of Huawei Wireless Network Business Unit.

Early this year, both Huawei and Etisalat signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conduct trials for ultra-fast mobile services in the Middle East over the next five years.

Huawei will be investing a minimum of $600 million in research and innovation for 5G technologies by 2018.

naah...but i hope modiji does stop this sneaky back dooring of ccp's fitty cent army.

could we exchange this enemy for somebody better ?

If the US has actionable intelligence, it should share it with the UK government, so the UK can make its own risk assessment.

Bulling like this is silly.

i think the U.S is just trying to protect its Telecom equipment companies like Cisco from too much competition. but they are doing it the wrong way IMO.. sadly. :(

Bulling like this is silly.

it is no bullying.

most US telecom companies have US government as client. any huawei or ZTE means US telecom companies have to say goodbye to US government projects.

the trigger lies with US government and not with US companies

What makes you so sure it isn't already there? iPhones are manufactured in China, so are lots of Western branded laptops/tablets. etc

i agree. you are right, its the U.S government not its companies that should be blamed, most companies dont care about politics, they care more about ROI and technology for a reasonable price etc. so they can't afford to go against their government, since their business relies on government policies/contracts/laws. etc

wrong. iPhones are assembled in china and not manufactured.

anyway there is comparing building a communication system to a simple cell phone or laptop

Yup. It smacks of protectionism.

It's protectionism masquerading as 'national security'.

i wouldn't comment on national security issues. every government have the duty to protect their citizens, and let them do what they deem fit.

My point is that, if other countries start blacklisting competitors because of "national security", then it will start a war of protectionism.

"National security" is a very seductive cover for governments to do all sort of things -- from domestic laws to international actions.

you have a point, but what i am trying to say is that government is accountable to its citizen safety, so let it do its work. what if huawai found out to be compromising US national security. I hope you agree that national security is more important than protectionism

These people simply can't compete。

So they come up with lameduck excuses。

Pathetic。:rofl::D

PS Chinese enterprises pay sky-high interests on the borrowings that they make to expand their business, yet these western competitors who pay near zero interests on loans thanks to N rounds of QEs,still can't compete and are caught with their pants down。
