Woah! INS Viraat To Remain In Service Till 2018

Whazzat? Just say again?

The IN's Harriers have not run out of airframe or engine hours. They have some contemporary weapons and sensors. Mot of all they are still serviceable. So where did you pop this notion of "vintage" out of?

Btw; if you don't know, Harriers are still operational with the RAF and the USMC. Because they are "vintage"?

Why ??? you read it correct first time . Ok saying it again "VINTAGE" ;)

Look like your defination of vintage is different form dictionary.

All I mean from Vintage was its actual meaning - old very old - if I am not wrong we got them in 80s.
So by that I didnt mean they have run out of life. My intention was if we are going to operate the carrier till 2018 are we going to face any 4/4.5 gen threat with SH ???

I know Harriers are still operational in RAF ( totally diffrent version form ours ) but didnt RN retired them ??? And AFAIK RN harriers were upgraded versions of what we are using.

Wouldn't a plane answer be better than ranting :undecided:

+ after reading your next two post , do you want to say Harriers ( our harriers ) are comparable to our Mig 29s or F-16s ???

.
Sounds good. That means her "material state" is still good.
Good for IN.

Holy $hit we were discussing this the other day! So they will keep two AC running at any time from now on.

Why ??? you read it correct first time . Ok saying it again "VINTAGE" ;)

Might be Naval LCA start comin before 2018

.
I suppose India continues with this old Carrier because you face a navy without a Carrier. Its better to have a steam engine than no engine at all.

Also, there will be continuation of operational readiness for the crew which may suffer a break if there was 2-3 years gap between one carrier being retired and the other inducted.

Yaara in terms of an aircraft, its serviceability is measured by its TTSL. So if by vintage you mean that they may not be serviceable or safe to fly then that's not really apt or accurate. If the babies were "zero-lifed" so to say then they are good to fly. That's all there is to it.

Now the term "vintage" only applies to the design of the fighter and its components. Not to mention that what @Capt.Popeye was getting at earlier was that the Harrier can simply out-turn the 29s, not a very surprising thing since a lower cruising speed will translate into better turning performance in a merge. Obviously as a complete system it cannot compete with a 29-K.

Remember,we are getting INS Vikrmaditya too.

This ship's actual military utility is already pretty limited however as a means to keep ACC operations fresh in the IN's institutional knowledge base this ship is vital until the IAC-1 comes into service. One really cannot underplay the importance knowledge of ACC operations plays. Having an ACC is all well and good but you need a well trained and experienced crew embarked otherwise you are in for a whole world of hurt. As the IN wants to be operating 2 CBGs come 2020, it cannot afford to let the Viraat go out of service before 2018 now.

I think this is the key point. With the IAF's long-range SU-30MKIs with IFR and Buddy-Buddy refueling capabilities the actual military utility of some LUSH SHs is limited in the context of Pakistan.

So if by vintage you mean that they may not be serviceable or safe to fly .

:hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:
Why everybody is reinventing the definition of the word Vintage ???
And why not read the post to which you quote. Wasn't I more than clear on what I mean ???

Now the term "vintage" only applies to the design of the fighter and its components. - :undecided: then what else is remaining if design and components are "vintage" ???

But their TTSL keeps them in shape yaara. As I said they cannot match a K series but they are in flight-worthy condition.

I am saying one thing and you are replying with other.

Lets just leave it to @Capt.Popeye to comment

So your gripe is with the fact that the capabilities have been rendered obsolete? Even that scarcely matters, unless you envision a war requiring us to start harbor bombardments between now and 2018. :D In which case you will most probably see the secret weapon being used (don't ask, two words though- combat radius).

hahahaha again.

Let me write it more clear :woot:

My question was simple if we are operating carrier till 2018 will SH be enough to tackle any 4/4.5 Gen threat they will face ???

HELL NO! Didn't I already state that? The Capt. stated that it can out-turn a K-29er and he's right and I also added that as a system it is no match for the latter under any circumstance. By vintage I presumed that you are commenting upon its airworthiness- ergo I mentioned the concept of TTSL.

Astonishing. The Indian Navy has revealed that it plans to keep its sole current aircraft carrier INS Viraat in service till 2018. The ship, incidentally, turned 25 in Indian service last year, and has been through a series of refits. More details shortly.

So are these being equipped with MiG-29Ks from Russia???

But I am sure that if Russian carrier will arrive in coming years then it will be send to scrap yards with in months...
