Will Vietnam become the next ‘world’s factory’ as production moves away from China?

I don't think so.

Yours truly...

LOL. CHINESE ECONOMY IS DOING WELL, AND BETTER THAN THE US. Words are that US GDP Q1 is just about 0% because of the government shutdown. A lot of holidays indeed!

"
  • China reported first-quarter 2018 GDP growth of 6.8 percent, topping expectations.
  • Analysts polled by Reuters had expected first-quarter 2018 GDP growth at 6.7 percent, which would have been a tick down from 6.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017."

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/16/chi...rts-first-quarter-gross-domestic-product.html

"J.P. Morgan on Thursday lowered its tracking estimate on U.S. economic growth in the first quarter as durable goods orders rose less than forecast in December with core capital orders posting a surprise drop.

U.S. gross domestic product likely grew at a 1.50 percent annualized pace in the first three months of the year based on the latest durable goods data, slower than an earlier calculated rate of 1.75 percent, J.P. Morgan economist Michael Feroli wrote in a research note.

J.P. Morgan also reduced its estimate on gross domestic product in the final quarter of 2018 to 1.4 percent from an earlier estimate of 1.6 percent."

Chinese cut down US FDI by 90% just so it can feed its BRI and the EU without a hassle!

"The Vietnamese or Kinh people are an Austroasiatic people and originated somewhere in today southern China.[34] From there, several Austroasiatic tribes migrated to Southeast Asia and parts of today Indonesia and eastern India. The early Vietnamese lived in an area of today northern Vietnam and southeastern China. From there they migrated to other parts of Vietnam. Genetic analysis show that they are a mongoloid population closely related to today southern Chinese and other southeast Asians."

Vietnam has been a part of China since ancient times!
."CHINESE ECONOMY IS DOING WELL, AND BETTER THAN THE US" ...???? Wow...but no one care, CN investor also dont give a dam care to your lying word. They dont wanna be slapped 25% tariff, so they flee to VN

VN treat Cnese so bad, but its still better than US 25%tariff

This is one way to make Vietnam more dependent on China. You know, just as business can come in, they may leave, too.

Dependency is good.
VN is TPP nation, so Investors must help VN localize 40-70% the products manufactoring in VN in order to get 0% tairff when exporting to other TPP nations.

If CN investors dont help, then they will be beaten and the factories got burn again:cool:

The U.S. Department of Commerce has temporarily removed the anti-dumping duty on Vietnamese frozen shrimp.
Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said the preliminary duty of 4.58 percent has been scrapped on Wednesday for 32 local exporters following the 13th administrative review by the department of the anti-dumping duty on Vietnamese shrimps.

The preliminary duty is set to become the foundation for the U.S. to abolish the duty in its upcoming final decision, Hoe told VnExpress. It will allow Vietnamese companies to expand further in the U.S. market, he added.

The U.S. is among the largest importers of Vietnamese shrimp. Last year shipments were worth $3.55 billion despite falling by 7.8 percent, according to VASEP.

1. The TPP is nothing without the US and judging by US domestic politics, the TPP is as good as dead.

2. Chinese FDI remains constant, and have been around this rate since 2010. If anything that means the FDI isn't increasing with the GDP growth, which means a lot of GDP growth since 2010 has been for domestic investments.

3. An eample of where all those money goes is R&D. No surprise that China today spends way more than any country in the world on R&D.

The report analysed the world’s 1,000 largest publicly listed companies that spend the most on R&D, and account for 40 per cent of the global spend.

“As China forges ahead with its innovation-driven growth strategy, innovation will become the top driving force for development,” said Patrick Hui, consulting partner at PwC mainland China and Hong Kong. “Twenty more Chinese companies entered the Global Innovation 1000 list compared with last year,” making up a total of 145.

4. Current Vietnamese government is actually pretty friendly to China, so other than some dumb Vietnamese who have no idea of how the real world work, your government is pretty good

"Trong, a party ideologue, has close ties with communist leaders in China, whose regional influence has grown as its $1 trillion Belt and Road Initiative has helped fund infra-structure projects in countries across Asia and beyond. Washington’s influence on the region, by contrast, has waned under President Donald Trump, especially after he withdrew the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) intended to reduce regional reliance on Beijing."

Okay, so the answer for "
Will Vietnam become the next ‘world’s factory’ as production moves away from China?" is YES.

CN investors fleeing from CN to avoid trade war will do it for VN

.
Vietnam is China's Mexico at best, nothing more than that.

1. WRONG. Vietnam can only be a part of the world's factory because China will still be the world's largest factory, with the largest supply chain, latest technologies, and smartest people by far. Those low-class manufacturing based on cheap labor are purposely moved out by the higher wage in China. It's not because Vietnam can produce better LOL. Those dirty factories are good in Vietnam anyway. Hope you enjoy the pollution!

Fun fact: Anyone can build factories, but not anyone can have the world's largest middle class. China's middle class in 400 million people. That's 4 times the population of Vietnam. Part of the reason why China can have the largest and most efficient supply chain is that there is a HUGE domestic market to support it. Export counts for about 20% of Chinese GDP. That means 80% of it comes from the domestic market.

2. Just because a country invests internationally doesn't mean they are "fleeing" it's called diversification.

I hope I'm not being too technical for you. :(

Its really SAD to realize that Vietnam had been so easily colonized by the WEAKLING French who surrendered to the Germans in 6 WEEKS and surrendered to the Japanese in 1 WEEK.
You know what even the Colonial HK fought the 30000 Japanese soldiers for more than 2 weeks. I didn't know the Vietnamese surrendered that fast. That was a shame.

It is definitly a complement to vn:
US GDP is only 16 times that of Mexico, while China's GDP is 56 times that of vn...
In other words, China generates vietnam's whole year GDP within less than 1 week...

Nonsense. Vietnam had no own army at the time, was defended by the French army. But the French lost the will of fighting when France surrendered to Germany. So they surrendered to Japan in September 1940.

The Vietnamese people’s army was founded much later, in December 1944.

It’s a step in right direction. Vietnam can provide foods surpluses to the rich countries at cheap cost. Quality is everything. Win win. I today found this in one of Germany’s largest supermarket chains. Interesting.
a small pack of Dim sum for 2,79 euro from VN. So $3 something. Such a small pack probably costs less than 50 cent in VN, but here Germany it is sold as if it is gold :D
