India has the highest number of children suffering from stunted growth in the world, the charity WaterAid says in a new report.

The report, titled Caught Short, says India has at least 48 million stunted children under the age of five.

Nigeria and Pakistan rank second and third with 10.3 and 9.8 million stunted children respectively.

Stunting, which is a consequence of malnutrition in the first two years of a child's life, is largely irreversible. It also affects a child's mental growth.

Apart from food shortage, other factors like poor sanitation and contaminated drinking water also cause malnutrition, leading to stunted growth among children.

"A lack of access to a toilet, clean water and good hygiene practices also play a major role, as repeated bouts of diarrhoea - often caused by dirty water and unhygienic environments - are directly linked to malnutrition," the report says.

A quarter of all cases of stunting are estimated to be directly caused by chronic diarrhoea in the first two years of life.

...and 774 million people live without adequate sanitation facilities. Around 140,000 children die every year due to diarrhoea in India.

Open defecation is one of the biggest health problems in India.

"India has the highest number of people in the world - more than half a billion - practising open defecation, which spreads deadly diseases and makes children more susceptible to diarrhoea and other infections," says Megan Wilson-Jones, WaterAid's policy analyst on health and hygiene.

In the past few years, India has made some progress in reducing the number of stunted children. At least 48% of all children were found to be stunted in 2006, but the number has dropped to 39% in 2014, the charity says.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also made it a priority for his government to provide clean drinking water and proper sanitation for all Indians.

India has most number of stunted children in world: Study

India’s preference for sons has created a nation of tiny people

On top of that the average height of Indians has actually increased. In 2014 average Indian men and women were 164.9 cm (5 feet 4.9 inches) and 152.6 cm (5 feet) tall. Where as Bangladesh was at 160.5 cm (5 feet 3.2 inches) and 150.8 cm (4 feet 11 inches) for men and women respectively. You guys pretty short yourself.

This is probably the current or few years old states. The next generation Indians will be extremely short and perhaps the shortest in the world which is why India is known as the nation of tiny people.

You can import sperms from racially superior countries, we can of course help as your neighbor.

Thanks for offering surrogate moms, but getting sperms or fertilized eggs from some other country and then sending it your country for surrogacy to get a better genetically produce, fails as soon as we take your help in surrogacy.

This is 2007 stats which proved that over the years the avg height of indians have increased.

No we actually offered sperms, importing it from Bangladesh will be cheaper as we are neighbors. It will also boost up the genetics of Indians at cheaper cost.

That's why we send our tall and handsome Pakistani boys across LOC to breed and increase Indian's average height and still they complain

Currently it is Bangladesh which is bottom 5 rankings for shortest people in the world. And if you look at trends height of Indians is only increasing over the years. Next generation Indians will be taller than the current one and rankings is expected to improve.

If Stephen Hawking can manage with 169 cm, Napoleon with the same and Charlie Chaplin with 165 I don't see why we should be worried about this.

You must be kidding :crazy::p:

Go and know more about bangladesh, You are net importer of sperms/semen from human to animals to fish.
http://www.factfish.com/statistic-country/bangladesh/semen+bovine,+import+value

Well, this stat is of animal semens for hybridization of cows, fishes and other animals. I was not talking about hybridization of Indians with other species. If you want to have hybrid species by crossing Indians with other animals, you can go ahead but if you want to preserve your species, you can import human sperms preferably from Bangladesh, Pakistan, China as these are the racially superior countries in your neighborhood.

Gentleman do not humiliate eachother...and i,ve noticed above the worst way to humiliate ur own species...we are all humans...plz delibrate but with respect...regards...
