I've thought about that China should help some moderate members within the worker party to overthrow Kim, but that would be direct interference within another country's sovereignty, not China's style. However, in a critical situation, maybe we can't think too much about.

But it seems that the Chinese think tanks favor the occupation of the nothern part of NK.

If NK falls apart, it losts its eligibility for representing Korea Peninsula and SK automatically becomes the only one who is qualified to claim and unify the whole Korea Peninsula. Then China's occupation of any part of NK will become an invasion, which is much worse than helping some moderate members within the worker party to overthrow Kim.

The Chinese think tanks who favor the occupation of the nothern part of NK are vey short-sighted. The idea of occupation of the northern part of NK is a very stupid one, it can not solve the whole problem but will bring more troubles to China. Once SK or US takes over NK, then the "buffer zone" between China and US disappears. The "buffer zone" consists of both the land of NK and the regime of NK.

The US is in South Korea at the request of the South Korean government. But your argument is revealing in that China does not care about the welfare of the North Koreans, only that to keep them barely alive for China's own geopolitical purposes.

The biggest worry for American military forces in Japan is the opinion of the Japanese people themselves.
