Explaine why it is in China's benefit to keep Korea divided? If you want U.S. bases out of Korea then the only way to acomplish that is through a unified Korea. Not to mention the much expanded trade China will do with a unified prosperous Korea. If China wants to be a responsible world leader then they should set an example
(assuming korea unifies soon) a unified "prosperous" korea will only exist far in the future, in the short to medium term korea will be heavily burdened by integration with the north(decades). however the rebuilding effort should benefit china though the trade off is china will also gain thousand if not millions of refugees that it has to take care of. thus the end net benefit for china in the short term to medium term is negative and thats not to mention that US forces could potentially be move north(united korea posts no real threat to a functioning china but us forces certainly does).
in the long term(ie: once china is on par with US) a united korea will definitely be welcomed. but for now so long as kim doesnt push it too far and china's growth is relatively unaffected then status quo is what china will want.
if kim's action start to affect chinese growth then yea unification under the south could happen much sooner rather than later.
