WIKILEAKS: Leaked diplomatic cables reveal that China is ready to abandon North Korea

this topic can stop here!

This treaty only applies if North Korea faces an "unprovoked" invasion.

The wording is vague enough that China can act freely in this situation.

Thirty years too late. China has had a market economy since 1978.

Our system is officially called a "Socialist market economy" (or Socialism with Chinese characteristics).

International media (such as the Economist) tend to refer to our system as "State capitalism".
And highly suspect that this contributed to the sentiment that NKR is no longer useful to China. China's economic progress and rising wealth is on a momentum that should not be stopped or even weighted down by supporting a backward state that refuses to reform even for its own sake. The current global economic doldrum is even more reason for China to focus on internal economic stability and conservation measures just in case there is another global downturn. North Korea is a millstone around China's neck.

Sure, the unification of your country is a mistake for us, and we do regret of this. Both Vietcong and RoV are the same **** and headache for us, same ungrateful bastards.
You are free to invade the US and take over. Ooohh...Pardon me...Were you talking about Viet Nam when the PLA was driven back?

Are you refering to Japan.

A strong united Korea. A strong China. A very lonely Japan.

Not sure that either China or the U.S. are gonna be ok with a unified Korea though (regardless of who is in charge). What reason would the U.S. have to station troops in Korea if she is unified and strong?

None at all. But that stability and strength will not come for years and as long as Seoul feels that there is a need for security, US forces will be there until that point.

by definition north korea is not a socialist/communist country.1.) it does not have a communist party - every other communist country is ruled by a communist party.
2.) the WORKER's PARTY holds a meeting once every 30 years - in no communist country is the party so powerless.
3.) it has a hereditary form of succession - no communist country does this. only military dictatorships in africa (and republic of china) do this. we use the sophisticated election mechanism instead.
4.) there is arbitrary application of laws - nowhere is justice fair, but only in north korea and saudi arabia is it so unfair.
5.) there are little-no social services avaliable - obvious.

north korea represents the future of saudi arabia when it runs out of oil. it is nothing like even the soviet union, much less us.

It is more of a Stalinist Communist country. the hereditary is simply the result of effective hero worship (brain washing) taken to the extreme. make no mistake if the Military or their peoples congress decided they didn't like the new successor it wouldn't happen. However as long as the political and military elite enjoy the perks that the average North Korean can't get they will go along with the status quo. I bet this leaked cable will have them quite concerned though.

Not suprised they are jack **** crazy. It is a smart move by China.

Abandoning NK means China is gonna border with the Imperial America. If that ever happens, China is gonna live under the direct threat of US.

China will not let NK fall into the hands of US and his puppy South Korea. If it is necessary, we can have another "Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea War". Better to fight to death than to be strangled to death.

Of course, the best way is to keep NK alive, if the crazy father and son want to commit suicidal acts, what China should do then? China can't babysit them for everything.

As i said, in the worst scenario, China can occupy the nothern part of NK as a "buffer zone" before they completely fall into the hand of US.

And we are not ready to confront US yet, it is not the time.

Exactly right.

In the worst case scenario, we can occupy a buffer zone in the northern part of NK. In the long-run though... a United Korea will not need (or be able to justify) American military presence, and we can finally get them off the Asian mainland.

China needs another decade or so of economic/military development before we can afford to go head-on with the USA. And even then it's not economically advisable, it is best to just beat them economically.

Yep, China is a huge elephant, USA can't beat us in our own backyard, and those foreign military bases are "too thin to strangle us".

As long as we can gain another decade of development, then everything would be fine.

Stalin didn't believe in hereditary rule. He used the same tools other politicians use: appointments and elections.

The Worker's Party of Korea has not met in 30 years. They met a few months ago to approve Kim Jong En. This means that the party has no power, it is not a communist country.

North Korea does not have a communist party. It is not the Communist Party of Korea.
