Why MIG-21 ?

As per AVM Latif, the helicopter MI-17 V5 was hit by Indians themselves and it has nothing to do with PAF.

So by this news item it was hit by a missile mid air that why a load sound and seemed liked a falling rocket ......

its simple. mig 21 with BVR missile is a decent interceptor for a third world country. there were not only mig 21 but also su 30 in the region. indians most likely were not expecting a PAF response so quickly that too in day time so it seems they lowered their guard a bit. indians didnt send their jets inside pak at the first moment. they were lured into pak air space. when the pak JFTs bombed indian ground targets migs and sukois were sent to intercept them .JFT turned back and the indians in anger or in emotions made a mistake or chasing them inside pak air space where the falcons and more JFT with air to air missiles were waiting for the indians to make that mistake which they did and paid the price by losing 1 mig 21 ,1 su 30 and three pilots ejected. one was caught by pakistani forces and the other two landed in india. if paf jets would have made the same mistake on the night before when the indian mirages struck inside pak i am sure pak jets would have faced the same fate . sukhois would have shot them down but paf acted sensibly and more professionally.
I heard 1 of the pilots was being treated in cmh hospital due to injuries.

On the Indian side.
Somewhere near IoK?

One SU-30 pilot died. The other is in Pakistan's custody.

MIG-21 pilot had to be released as, his video was published and Pakistan could not hide that fact.

In case of SU-30 pilot, Pakistan is holding him as a hostage.

Ok but why is india silent on him being held as a hostage? Why didn't abhinandan further talk about it?

Maybe Abhi doesn't know about him, the guy didn't even know which side of the border he crashed into. Secondly India disowned the second pilot so Pakistan is hush hush about it. We will most likely extract as much info as we can from him

yeah its seems total stupidity that they sent mig-21 to counter thunders or even f-16 . paksitani jets take it with salt .

It was a starter before main meal.

No serious note, I have no clue why would Indians send vintage mig21 to take on JFs.

You know what indians also tried to disown their soldier chandu longtime ago until the truth came out.

They also sent Flankers and M-2000s, as per the IAF.

But the Thunders still did the mission successfully, without a scratch!

Amidst all that has happened , one thing that needs to be analyzed is why india sent MIG-21 ?
They have newer more advanced aircrafts which would serve better in an offensive role

A MIG-21 being sent across enemy lines actually points towards operational and procedural problems in the IAF with regards to newer aircraft.

Perhaps a mix of western and Russian airframes is the issue, too many aircraft types in the inventory ?
Buying a high tech aircraft is one thing but using it in an operational area is quite another.

The high end aircraft we know in IAF inventory are the Mirage2000, Su30 and Rafale.
Are none of these ready for the task ?
They didnt just send a mig 21
As per indian airforce 2 mig 21 , 2 mirage 2000 and 2 su30mki were sent.
Also according to indian media one mig21 and one su30mki were shot down

The 28 Squadron was up and ready when the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 kicked off and participated in escort and combat air patrol missions. Notably, there was an engagement with R-3S missiles against a force of PAF F-86 Sabre fighters, but the missiles did not connect.

After the loss of two MiG-21s in the ground to an airbase attack, 28 Squadron was withdrawn from the front.

all i can see both were thunder can you post screen shot of that video ?
Seen the video...yes a twin engine being chased by a thunder
