Why Kerala has no beef with beef.

I sense a blind hatred here. pick the following 2 scenarios

(1) Do not feed us animals prohibited by our religion
(2) Do not allow non-hindus to eat animals they love to eat.

Which one infringes right of others ? which one is harmless.

In the "Pork situation", there was a good possibility that some of the kids may give it a try out of curiosity and eat Pork. is this allowable ?. This is not like serving beef/pork to grown college students in hostel. who are the responsible people in the school ? I understand destruction of some furniture is too much, at least those erumely folks did not prevent non-muslims from eating pork ? What the teacher did was a minor mistake and should be excused.

See that is the difference. All this Maharashtra ban does, is take Hinduism to extremes, condemn mild-hindus/low-caste hindus/chrisitans/muslims/parsees from savouring beef, which should be condemned.

Actually the pork was served during NCC training and the teacher informed students that those who do not want pork can leave.. Some students had some hatred towards the teacher and they spread rumors that the teacher forcefully feed Pork to students..This caused the outrage..Our resident bigot just using these kind of news for justifying his actions..

Having said all this - I am a religious third-class hindu but not a hindutvavadi. I have nothing against muslim and christians eating it like any other meat - their understanding and their life. Frankly I do not believe in banning cow slaughter by the Govt. I do not know them banning it because for a noble cause or just to antagonize muslims and christians. It is said that India is one of the largest exporter of beef which was on for decades now. Suddenly one fine morning you wake up and prohibit this without giving any thought to the after effect.

I am glad you have proclaimed that you are not a Hindutvadi, god forbid if you were ever mistaken for one

Time for you to put your money where you mouth is. You write paeans about the need to protect the cow, so what exactly have you done about it ?

Talk is CHEAP. Is that all you have ever done ? all the you will ever do ? what exactly should the other Hindus do to protect the cow ? start a riot ?

I get sad and depressed when I see old useless cattle roaming around on our roads eating rubbish and garbage thrown on roads. I feel helpless at the plight of injured, sick, and helpless animals including cow in and around. Could the Govt do something about it. Once we hindu can take care of our holy cow throughout her life with love and compassion then we can proudly ban the slaughter.

Why don't you extend that logic to humans too ? Don't you feel sad when you see poor people on the street, sick and injured and hungry going through garbage ?

Why don't we allow murder till such a date when we can take care of ALL our people ?

Individually I can't do anything. That's why I called myself 3rd Class. It's very frustrating.

But then I have voted for Modi. I have faith in him that he will do something. I have put lots and lots of effort during election time in support of Modi. Believe me I have given sweat and blood day and night and when Modi became our PM - that too with full majority - I was so happy. My only worry is that the priorities of development and progress of the nation is being diverted to something else.

Do they? It is amazing then.

Only problem is that his identity has been revealed!

And @Guynextdoor2 turned out to be another Nair! :D

Yeah. In any country with a large number of minorities there is a hole, you can climb through, an avenue for escape. Even in Pakistan drinking is not banned for minorities despite the number of idiotic laws we have like blasphemy etc. In India however even a large number of hindus consume beef. So its not making sense. It is a restriction of civil rights which does not occur in a secular country where everyone is expected to be treated equally.

I believe its time to say good bye to this thread. The topic of discussion may be infinite.

Then I suggest you start by standing up for yourself and for you beliefs. Because no one else is going to do that for you.

Second you can stop apologizing about Hindutva vadi's. They are just people like you, the only difference is they have learned to stand up for their rights. By denying them a legitimate space in your mind, you are defeating your own struggle and weakening it.

Development and progress is not mutually exclusive to Hindu rights. Or do you think they are ?

Because cows cannot give birth to more cows without bulls. And a bullock becomes a bullock not naturally but because of man. So its man duty to protect him.

So you are saying that the reason behind banning bull and bullock meat is not religious? @SarthakGanguly do you agree?

We hindu believe that God (Brahma Vishnu Maheshwara) creates, maintains, and destroys the universe. And Shakti is the power with which these are performed and we call her Aadi Maaye the Devine Mother. Mother is one who is above all - the most exalted - there is no divinity greater than Mother.

Why this importance to Mother. For she is the one who gives birth and from her breast feed only we survive. Can there be any other food as sacred as a mother's milk. A human mother feeds only her own child and that too for a few months...

Now come think of cow. In Shrimad Bhagavad-Geeta Lord Krishna says "dhenunam asmi kamadhuk" Among cows I am Kaamadhenu - the wish fulfilling cow!

She feeds us all our life - right from our birth till we die - at every stage of our life. We derive so many various products - curd, butter, cheese, ice cream... We depend on holy cow each and every day throughout our life. Having not satisfied with feeding on her throughout, we human want to suck her life too?

Having said all this - I am a religious third-class hindu but not a hindutvavadi. I have nothing against muslim and christians eating it like any other meat - their understanding and their life. There are many more animals from whom humans source milk, buffalos, goats, camels, etc. In fact India produces more buffalo milk than cow milk if I remember correctly. Simply say that cow is gau-mata, you cannot justify any special status for cows other than purely religious reasons.

Bulls and bullocks don't even enjoy that status.

Because in a world ruled by human beings, humans are at a different level and cannot be compared with any other creature, living or otherwise. You are coming up with very stupid logic.

Its 100% religious.

Is there any reason why in our "secular" country, only Hindu religious sensibilities have no place?

How it is religious? Bulls & bullocks are not worshipped! 'Gau' itself is female gender.

@dray / @Rain Man

Can you please spell out what your position on this issue is?

I don't know what or how to debate with you unless I do.

How it is religious? Bulls & bullocks are not worshipped! 'Gau' itself is female gender.

It religious because Hinduism is pretty pragmatic about sex.

Where there is a mother, there has to be a father.

We do not believe in spontaneous pregnancies, apples, ribs, etc.

Just wanted to understand, if the ban is for reasons, then why bulls & bullocks should be banned also, they are the castrated & uncastrated males of that species, not the milk-giving cow or gau-mata which specifically refers to the females of that cattle species.
You are the only person among the sceptics to still use good language...thanks for that. I personally am for the protection of the cow only... Amul's experience with cows is the best example in this regard. That is worth emulating...

Does not matter which God he worships to. His hate for India is legendary.

He is just anti-BJP, anti-Modi, anti-Hindutva! He doesn't even like Rahul or Kejriwal much, he just sees opponents of BJP in them, and I think he can cheer for Lalu also if things come to that. :)
