Why India is on the brink of an unprecedented power crisis

Solar makes up only a few percent of India electrical output. Having coal in the ground and being able to economical extract that coal are two different things. Much of India's coal reserves are too deep in the ground or too low quality to be economically viable at the moment.

Solar is around 10%. It's still not bad. Our renewable energy source is at around 30% including wind, hydro etc. As far as I know I talk to my parents everyday and there is no power cut as of yet.
Not saying we won't be facing issues. But it won't be too long or serious as China is facing right now. We have import Coal from Australia (whom China refuses to import) or Indonesia to make up for our shortfall.

Lol. You vote for Owaisi and we'll vote for who we like.
PDF loves Modi too. Good at riling up mobs......but little else.

Depending on where you are in India....increased load shedding has already started. Problem here that is Modi thinks India can be self sufficient in coal. The current crisis is showing it can not. Imports are very expensive...electric rates in India can not justify current import costs.

China in the long term will import energy directly from Eurasia and MENA via overland routes. Eurasia and MENA energy resources dwarfs anything in Australia.

. . . .
Where source?

Industries in India who consume huge amount of energy like aluminium and steel producers have already been effected. The problem is that the electricity price is not flexible and India gov still doesnt want to pass the price increase into the consumers. This is why the import is so low amid raising coal prices. If the price is flexible then Power Plants in India will not hesitate to import the coals

Well, electricity should really have been a free resource. It is a basic human right.

And what do you think about the second paragraph of post# 29 ?

Free resources ? No body will mine coal if it is free

Nuclear based battery is not new, even one Indonesian state university has developed it, it will last for 40 years. Yup that is the future, but needs more research and development.

In Socialist countries like Libya and USSR electricity was totally free. I think the Libyans had oil generators and the USSR had various types of generators including of coal.

In India the Aam Aadmi Party is promising free electricity up to 300 units of electricity ( some calculation in India ) partially free if it comes to governance power in election in some states. I think since it already governs Delhi it has made electricity partially free there. @Naofumi, you live in Delhi, what is the arrangement ?

Yes, nuclear batteries are not new. They have been used in satellites and other space probes for long and in the USSR they were used in remote automated scientific stations. But they were big or inefficient. The NDB battery is scalable from tiny to large applications. Please go through the linked website. And how does the Indonesian battery generally work ?

And yes, nuclear batteries are one of the futures but NDB is not leaving its development to the future but is developing it now.

Indonesian nuclear based battery is using nuclear waste, I cannot say it more than that

Look like you favor nuclear based battery to be used by civilians ? No, that is not a good idea, it should only be used in power plant or some industry with high degree of sophistication and security.

That's nice since the NDB battery also uses carbon-14 waste material which the company sources from nuclear fission reactors.

Please read the "NDB Safety Strategy" on this page that details somewhat how the product ensures security and safety. And of course the society also needs to ensure that only authorized people are able to use tools like diamond-tipped drills and related equipment and facilities.

. .
we get subsidized electricity

For my house it comes to about 2000 rupees monthly which is a considerable amount in complicated India. Electricity should be free because it a basic human right.

. .
yes and horses can fly

Don't be an ignorant. In Socialist countries like Libya and USSR electricity was free. So was housing, healthcare etc.

And I shouldn't be giving examples. The idea itself is a fine one.
