Solar makes up only a few percent of India electrical output. Having coal in the ground and being able to economical extract that coal are two different things. Much of India's coal reserves are too deep in the ground or too low quality to be economically viable at the moment.

Solar is around 10%. It's still not bad. Our renewable energy source is at around 30% including wind, hydro etc. As far as I know I talk to my parents everyday and there is no power cut as of yet.
Not saying we won't be facing issues. But it won't be too long or serious as China is facing right now. We have import Coal from Australia (whom China refuses to import) or Indonesia to make up for our shortfall.

Depending on where you are in India....increased load shedding has already started. Problem here that is Modi thinks India can be self sufficient in coal. The current crisis is showing it can not. Imports are very expensive...electric rates in India can not justify current import costs.

China in the long term will import energy directly from Eurasia and MENA via overland routes. Eurasia and MENA energy resources dwarfs anything in Australia.

Industries in India who consume huge amount of energy like aluminium and steel producers have already been effected. The problem is that the electricity price is not flexible and India gov still doesnt want to pass the price increase into the consumers. This is why the import is so low amid raising coal prices. If the price is flexible then Power Plants in India will not hesitate to import the coals

In Socialist countries like Libya and USSR electricity was totally free. I think the Libyans had oil generators and the USSR had various types of generators including of coal.

In India the Aam Aadmi Party is promising free electricity up to 300 units of electricity ( some calculation in India ) partially free if it comes to governance power in election in some states. I think since it already governs Delhi it has made electricity partially free there. @Naofumi, you live in Delhi, what is the arrangement ?

And yes, nuclear batteries are one of the futures but NDB is not leaving its development to the future but is developing it now.

That's nice since the NDB battery also uses carbon-14 waste material which the company sources from nuclear fission reactors.
