Why India chose to disappoint the US

The only loss is to India. The F/A-18 Super Hornet was the best of the bunch. The Hornet's APG-79 AESA radar is much superior to the Rafale or Typhoon system, the missiles have combat-proven lethality, and the jets would have been cheaper as well.

We were looking for a new fighter to serve for more than 40 years. The ones fielded didnt look likee newer platforms. You guys should have put an Indian specific F-35 instead.

A cat which has fallen in hot water is scared always...I have no problem in saying we were afraid of spares issues, sanction etc. F-18's without spares in war time is not so great fighter.

Do you believe that either France or the Eurofighter consortium will be more reliable providers of spares and maintenance?

After the nuke test , France supported India and never for once put any sanctions.
Result they got multi billion dollar contract of Scorpene and Nuclear plants.
US did all the heavy lifting for the civilian nuclear deal but it has not got any contract yet whereas Russia and France have, heck even UK has

Why?
may be US should start considering India as a different nation as compared to Pakistan or other smaller countries.
We are backward sure, but we would hate to be taken as a client state rather than partners.

Act like a partner not Master

I am not sure about any consortium...whims and fancies of different members. But france has helped us with Military stuff since last 20 or 30 yrs. Never even heard of any sanctions or supply cut-off. Maybe they will charge more but they are reliable.

And Americans wanting to sign many strategic agreements did not sit well with our military. We have suffered a lot during american led UN sanction after going Nuclear. Thankfully we started our reforms a few years back.

I dont know how much my ans is going to help you but this is what i think.

Chogy, to a bank, the credit history of a borrower does matter a lot.

Unfortunately, and it gives me great displeasure to say this considering how much I'd love India and the US to have a srategic relationship, the Indo-US relationship has a very poor credit history for the IAF to invest such a huge amount into the relationship.

I think Indo-US relationship will turn out to be quite a fine wine. It'll take its time to age and will be among the best out there.

Good to see you back Hon Sir

I echoe with what your saying; the F16's and F18's were overall the most capable jets out of the bunch, and due to economies of scale they were very reasonable priced. PAF during 2005-2006 went all around the world and tested pretty much every available European and American BVRAAM. Conclusion was, AMRAAM's were the best of out of the lot, they had a 100% kill rate in the scenarios PAF tested them. PAF is soon going to order AIM9X :D, cued with the JHMCS, this will give PAF 90 degree High Off Boresight Shoot Capability :D

US would be willing to be treated India like a major partner, such as Britain, Australia and Japan. But India refuses and want to be treated better than this countries. This will never happen. As for technology, old US technology is more advance than tomorrows technology that India can get from Europe or Russia. Its better off for India to be a US partner.

I highly doubt that. It will happen. It might take some time, may be even a decade but it will happen. It is BOUND TO HAPPEN.

...provided India keeps up the economic growth.

Eurofighter has more future than both the US fighter.....

plus US (user end) problem.

f-16 , we all know is proven one.....but Pakistan card failed it there

f-18 was good one indeed... but i see Eurofighter is better in respect of future.......

Okay! Do you see India whining about the U.S. being unwilling to treat India "better than the other countries"? India has moved on & made its decision. It is our choice not to have "old U.S. technology" We will make our own choices thank you very much. Time for the U.S. to accept that India is unwilling to be treated like other countries. The U.S. can either bring more to the table or choose not to. Either way, we are not the ones complaining .

You have forgotten one thing, countries like Britain, Australia, Japan, SK, Taiwan don't have independent foreign policy but India has one.

yaar yeh banda practical baat karta hai

Yes I do, anything else ?

If you expect better, than India should show why it deserve to be treated better. I don't see any reason why US should treat India better than its long time allies like Britain or Australia. Just throwing tantrums by not wanting to sign any end user agreement does not deserve better treatment from the US. Sorry, but your self aggrandizing attitude might work on your smaller neighbors, but not the US.
