It is not romanticizing. Hindus have been always well off during the Muslim as well as British times. Muslim families were generally poor and almost all the Muslim farming families were poorer than the Hindu farmers. Hindus were educated and Muslims were almost remained uneducated until 1947. Hindus were getting all the government jobs because they were educated and Muslims were not getting those because they chose to remain uneducated.

I think, Indian Muslims still have the same tendency. But, it is different in BD because the govt. encouragement pushes the Muslims to aspire for higher education. However, in many of the Institutions of higher education, Hindu numbers are far ahead when seen it in terms of percentage of population.
