100 Attack helicopters are needed by Army
30 Needed just for the protection of Iran -Pakistan - China gas line
75 needed by Police & Ambulance service (Transport Units)
20 reserved for Navy - special ops
25 for Coast Guard and Anti Norcotics operations

500 Helicopters would be decent estimate for a nation size of Pakistan

300 Active , and 200 spares / engines and bodies

In All honesty we should be making our own Helicopters regardless of cost factor which I have heard since 80's look how many cobras we have since 80s .. 20-25 cobras same number since 80's due to the cost / analysis mind set

For just 500 helos, Its not wise to invest heavily. Unless you produce in 1000, you can not gain much from it. And moreover you are not using same configuration in future. You need periodically to invest in research, Is ur research facilty good enough???

And farmost, if you talk about export, you need to compete with major helo manufacturars, which is really a tough challenge..

If we need to built helicopters why don't we get the biggest user to invest in R&D - the Army!! Navy has its F22P Frigate, PAF JF-17. the Army could start by funding helicopter R&D, basic design shouldn't cost much with Pakistan thinking and attitude it is possible have faith in Pakistan engineers!

If you want to be the best equipped trained army therefore you should invest! otherwise by Chinese or secondhand!
