What's new

Why defence.pk on Facebook is so different than the Forum?

6. Here if somebody asks a noob query, they are rudely guided towards Mr. Manticore's "Info threads".

i chuckled a bit after reading this - a lot of time/energy was put to make info pools for members who cant go through thousands of pages of discussions -- gradually the info pools have also increased in size as the amount of info increased --- old threads are locked anyway

now members dont have to explain the info every other month to new members, rather they just guide the new members to the info pools -- it saves time

I just bought a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari from my earnings at pdf :laughcry:

This kills the entire purpose of a forum.

Members being sent to information pools for things considered common knowledge on the forum?
It'd do new members good to go through some of those threads, it has a lot of basic info that you require and some in depth info you could gain from.

It hugely benefits the forum to have these sort of threads around, PDF can define itself above other forums of it's kind for having such vast info pools and databases.

Yeah should be renamed as defencepedia.....wait don't we have wikipedia...for such.....?. On a serious note not undermining the utility of such threads, but they are used as an excuse to bar discussion which is counter productive. Not to mention there are scores of people who don't like to go through a barrage of literature/data to find some thing that has a few words answer. Similarly even if some one has questions after going through "info pools" they are not provided enough space for further discussions. Needless to remind the obvious that not every one has the same comprehension skills so the "trends" should be to accommodate all, instead of fortifying the restrictions .

The page and forum are different in many ways but inevitably linked in other ways. Here on the forum, the liberal extremists such as yours truly, are over represented as a percentage of all concerned Pakistanis. Not all those 3 million are forum material, nor would they enjoy forum style or forum level discussion which goes above and beyond small statements and brief multimedia. A certain level of understanding, intellect, education, and rabid obsession is needed to be what most PDF members are, and this is inevitably different from most (not all) of those who simply like a page on facebook and follow posts and multimedia.
Those 3 million represent a wider public opinion of Pakistan than the few "Cyber Intellectuals" here, wont you agree? On the forum we have more Indian members than the Pakistani's, so if we are to go with your "reasoning" then it means that despite all the trolling, Indians are considered more "forum worthy"............Seriously? And you not taking into account the receding numbers of Pakistani members on the forum signifies what? They are not smart enough?

.
we generally dont take wiki as source - go through the info pools, there is more than 60% chance that your questions are already answered there

forums are not merely q/a sessions rather you have to read as well if you are interested enough ... and if your questions are not addressed there, you are free to ask .. there is a chance that such info is not present on the web

nobody ever guided me to manticore's threads, I am curious to know the threads, can you post them here?
jft/special mission/ ak/ t80/ agosta/ pn frigate etc info pool threads

3. On the forum being a 'liberal fascist'------ blindly advocating western values, gets you a big thumbs up.Give this a try on facebook and you'll get a response that wont be easy to shake off. (How about praising Miss Malala on facebook's defence.pk, just to test my assertion.....?)
Liberal Fascist. LoL. Thats a new word in my dictionary.

The administration has every right to manage its various portals (Forum, Twitter, FB) as it sees fit. You may disagree with what they are doing, but I can assure you many more agree with the way things are being managed.

Being an Ex-"CyberAnalyst" yourself, this is quite an expected response.

our aim on the forum is not to get ''thanks'' .. well some members are publicity w ores .. but for many , the need was to have comprehensive data in a concise form on the net-- info pool threads as such are not present anywhere else on the web.. unless theyve copy pasted everything from a-z
