In Raheel's case, a coup didn't happen and neither did PM give a preference to what was considered best choices at that time in rank and file. It is solely PM's choice as per law.

My guess is that Ramday will be next COAS due to family relations with Sharif Family. Second choice will be Bajwa.

General Raheel also was selected because his father was close friend of Nawaz Shareef father but that didn't well for Nawaz Shareef don't expect that.

Action will be taken even on Zardari it took time one speech didn't do anything things were piling up and combing operations in Punjab are taking place. Securit Breach can't be decided in one month. Investigation will take time

Raheel Shareef is pro-democracy but not pro-nawaz.
Zarb-e-Azab started under his command. IBOs are there in Punjab. One senator was resigned to speak against PA and one minister for Dawn leaks. A case was registered against NS and co. for june 16 massacre by RS interruption. Now its up to courts to give PAT justice. What else you want from RS?

He is as for a matter of fact.

Ramday was the GOC of 19 div which was fighting off the extremist elements when Taliban actually had the offensive doctrine. So much so, Ramday was leading one of the most bloodiest operations while aboard a bell 412 when a sniper fire wounded his leg. After being hospitalized for 2 months, he was posted as Commandant of Armed Forces War College, NDU and later President of NDU as a Lt. Gen. . Since last year he is commanding 31 Corps, Bahawalpur..

Hence I find it very bizzare when the public links Javed Ramday's choice as a COAS to Justice Ramday.

Also the succeeding GOC of 19 div was no one other than Maj Gen. Sanaullah who was martyred on the field. These were the sort of battlefields where these fine gentlemen were carrying one of the most bloodiest counter insurgency operations.

If I was to be the PM of Pakistan, I would have abolished this hand picking and would have introduced a system, the senior most gets selected automatically.

Certainly the current system has it's own pros and cons but I think the cons out weighs the pros with current hand picking system.

Adieu General Raheel, you were the finest of the lot of COASs. I know people here will largely forget you as the new dawn approaches, but your's were the brightest of days. Live long and prosper!

Where are those "Combing" Operations? CTD is more active than the military intel agencies in Punjab, killing of AQ,ISIS and sectarian rats.

1-The generals are not senior in the sense of "large seniority gaps" most of them are batchmates with seniority spanning to mere hours in between.
2-Seniority is rather a curse than a virtue for top most general because the office of the COAS is technically haram for the senior most general since he is slated for CJCSC rather than COAS. Ideally CJCSC is handed over to the senior most general of all three fighting forces but Army has maintained monopoly over it since Mushi's time. CJCSC is the principal senior to COAS (though the office of COAS has never shared the powers with that office). So for COAS, a general should be at most, second principal senior candidate.
3-If seniority would have been followed, we wouldn't have had General Raheel shining like a star in the first place. Mind you general raheel was also not a blue eyed boy of Kayani who wanted Gen Rashid to be made COAS
