Just a calculated guess

News media and PDM were against General Faiz. Do we know anything about him? Is he also compromised like Bajwa?
More than anyone or anything, Army's daddies in Pentagon were against Faiz.

Ayub was also the senior most, and that is why we lost many a brilliant and professional officers. On the other hand Kakar and Raheel shareef, though were junior most, proved to be very professional.

So why not say that the PMs start appointing COASs on the basis of professionalism rather party/own interests.
There needs to be a process. The problem is the selction process by the PM is dependent on the whims of the PM. I fhink your example is a mixed bag. If Kakar And Shareef were good ( I think we need to reappraise Shareef as there were potentially more better people around) then Musharraf and Zia were bad and caused this country a lot of harm as well.

Yes, but the point is that before martial law, he was appointed as C-in-C because he was the senior most. Thus being senior most doesn't guarantee professionalism.

Why not IK? Didn't he want to keep Fiaz Hameed as DG ISI when he had been posted out, despite being a serving officer?

Do you think our PMs are educated/interested to understand or comprehend reports, qualifications, gradings, ACRs, courses attended, appointments held, operations led? The answer is NO.
Moreover they don't have anything to do with it, they just want to appoint someone who can be influenced. Thus appointing the weakest contender, who in order to prove himself capable starts interfering in politics etc.
Regarding Ayub, he was disciplined and removed from service for migling with the political elite contrary to the orders of the COAS. He was brought back by Iskender Mirza so technically again he was already tainted.
Regarding the political machinations we have the politicians to blame as well. If you leave a void in the decision making cycle it will be filled. The politicians have been incompetent so far which is why the army has filled the void. Once you are corrupted by the corridors of power, this will lead to inconstitutional actions which is what has repeatedly seen. We need politicians to evolve and assume some level of competence before the threat of Army interference will recede.

The main problem is the excessive power and unanswerable nature of the position of coas that needs to be sorted. Bajwa needs to be summoned for his actions, otherwise whoever comes next does not matter but will only make it worse!

Please enlighten on the decisions that the competent generals made which were or are still beneficial for this country?

Whoever he will be, he will make sure of political instability in Pakistan and more facilities in DHAs, more private clubs for their officers, less equipments for fighting soldiers.
