Sometimes it amaze me seeing your fairly deep knowledge about Bangladesh. Your account on Tagore and other caste Hindu attitude are mostly true. But making pakistan was a wrong choice for us. It would have been much much better if a separate muslim country was founded instead of East Pakistan in 1947.

Jinnah and other top Urdu speaking Muslim League leadership in that time considered Bengali muslim leaders as a threat to their powerhold. There was an underline faultline even before forming Pakistan between Bengali and North western muslim league leadership. Jinnah was always uneasy with Bengali muslim league leaders. So he surrounded himself with the people from his part of the world. Hindustani, Punjabi etc and sidelined Bengali leaders. That leadership always overlooked the interest of Muslim Bengal during the bargaining of Partition. The end result of partition was, East Bengal was only province became Pakistan which came without it's capital city or any significant urban center. West Pakistani based muslim league leadership dreaded Calcutta being part of East Bengal. So they happily relinquished claim over the city for the bargaining of Lahore. This is just one example of what happen when your 'leadership' do not represent your interest with the bargaining with foreign power.

I believe if our leaders would be wise enough, it was possible to create the greater United bangla as sohrawardi proposed.
I read that the hindutva ideology of vinay savarkarkar was responsible for the partition of bengal.
And also I believe that Bengali muslim leaders were too fond of their western counter part. Otherwise all movement were led by Bengalis yet, we got a tiny amount of land and huge huge population .
Who knows maybe others together (British, Hindus and muslim league leaders of Western side).
The benefit is if muslim league leaders agree, then that will help them getting sindh that was hindu majority state, so maybe they made a plan together and deprived us. Otherwise the proposal of sohrawardi was strong enough to form United Bengal.
And the British revenge was actually against sipahi mutiny I believe. It's Bengali Muslims who lead every anti British movement, so probably they didn't like us.

If sindh can be part of Pakistan and mass migration can happen, then it was possible for us to get the 7 sisters and West Bengal by exchanging other muslim peoples from Bihar and orissa, as all were part of subah bangla.

In Bangla state of India (West Bengal) Bangladeshis are not considered Bangali but Bangladeshi only. This is mainly because Bangladeshis are religiously different from Bangalis of India. Bangladeshis are Muslims. So automatically we are not 'true' Bangali for them (Indian Bangalis). Only they uphold the true identity of being 'Bangali'. We are only Bangladeshi and Muslims.

As per the High Caste Hindu folks in Bengal, being born in Bengal and speaking Bengali language don't automatically make you a Bengali!!! You have to have the following additional characteristics to be considered as a Bengali in their book (Inside Bangladesh today; an eye-witness account by Basant Chatterjee, New Delhi, S. Chand, 1973):

• You have to be a High Caste Hindu
• You need to be literate in Bengali, Sanskrit etc.
• Can't work in the fields (e.g., farmer, craftsman, fisherman etc.)
• Need to own some lands

Hence, the Muslims in Bengal are by definition opted out!!! It's no wonder that Tagore, the Nobel Laureate Bengali poet and novelist, didn't have a single Muslim character from Bengal in his tons of literary works!!! When asked, his reply was simple: I don't know anything about the Muslims in Bengal!!! Interestingly, Tagores were one of the greatest landlords of Bengal, and 90% of their subjects were Muslims!!! BD Muslims were such an underclass in the British India under the Permanent Settlement!!! The creation of Pak let them live like a human being again!!!! No wonder they were first to backstab Pak, and that too on the basis of the Bengali nationalism!!!! What an irony of fate....

unfortunately, this is what the higher castes think n this got rubbed off on the middle castes as well. however, the lowest classes are insulated from higher caste thought process, so they dont think bangladeshis as just bangladeshis.
during 1971 war, all spectrum of west bengalis helped in the war, irrespective of class.

They don't. There is a huge difference between Bangladeshi shuddho Bangla that newscasters adopt and standard Kolkata Bengali (kheyecho/korecho/pani/lobon vs kheyejo/korejo/jol/noon).

Sindh was majority Muslim with urban pockets here and there being Hindu majority. Overall around 3/4ths of the population was Muslim and like their Indus brethren used the Perso-Arabic script, so there was no chance of it ever becoming part of India. The only viable part of Sindh that could have gone to India was Tharparkar district in the extreme south east.
