Which country does the US fight? ISIS?:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: Russia has something like 20 Kilo subs. The US has 0 conventional subs. China has like 20 Type 054A frigates. The US has 1 frigate. US navy sucks compared to Chinese and Russian navies.
USA have SEVEN naval fleets that operate in different parts of the world, ready to strike anywhere on moments notice.

Russia and China do not have the military resources and budget on par with USA to exert global influence; both Russia and China can conduct limited-scale naval operations at a time. This is why Russia have not been able to establish a permanent presence in warm waters and China have not been able to dominate its hostile neighbors for territorial gains so far.

Number of vessels are a single factor, additional factors are also important which include vessel capabilities and budget.

Wow, tough Top Guns taking on ISIS civilians again. :disagree: Tough guy.

.
'most resources not paper' isn't helping them right now.

BTW- where's our 'biradar mulk' from across the border? What's up boys I thought aftet induction of JF 17 and Al Khalid you guys were supposed to be in that list :D
Thank you for remembering us. We are not a super power. We are quite happy where we are and as we are. JF-17 and Al-Khalid have increased our defence but they did not make us a super power.

Are you pro ISIS? Whether we created them or not, they are killing innocent civilians more than we allegedly do and now we are getting rid of them or trying to.

I am neither pro nor against ISIS. They are what they are, civilians who had enough and took it upon themselves. They are a product of their circumstances.

If there were more Finnish people we would rule the world. Ten million would be enough.

we rulez the world. now go play in your sandbox 8-)

You do know that US does not have conventional subs because it has better nuclear subs? It doesn't need frigates because it has better vessels suited for their doctrine?

Conventional subs are quieter than nuclear subs. Nuclear subs have to pump water all the time to cool reactors. Conventional subs with AIP are the quietest.

Frigates are best at hunting subs. Destroyers are no substitute for destroyers. The US navy is foolish for phasing out its last frigate Kauffman.

Yep, in fact the most dangerous aspect of the US Navy is not their aircraft carriers, but their nuclear submarines.

Nuclear submarines are the real power of the oceans.

Yes Argentina's cruiser was sunk by a British nuclear sub during Falklands war.

But nuclear subs means much powerful sonar and detection capabilities from greater distance. With modern missiles, it is a huge advantage. Besides these subs can be much more faster. Unless AIP based diesel subs know where to look for the nuclear sub, they would be switching on their AIP like morons on roaming in the open sea burning fuel inefficiently or discharging their batteries.

The name is just a name. They have fast surface ships which can hunt submarines and protect their carriers.

This!!! Our destroyers are the size of cruisers, our cruisers even larger, and either can do the job that is needed - it's a game of names. Cruisers are geared more towards air-defense and land-attack, destroyers are multi-role. It might not be the perfect substitute, but the LCS will suffice in an anti-sub role - it will fill the frigate gap. The main argument against the LCS is its low survivability, but against modern anti-ship defenses, is any ship really survivable? This isn't even to include a plethora of anti-surface and sub-surface assets that the USN has, including the P-8 and its own submarine fleet.

The crux of this debate is semantics, and you're right, our destroyers are that in name, they can do whatever is asked of them... including anti-sub warfare.

AIP subs tend to just wait at neutral buoyancy and ambush anything that happens upon them. They aren't hunter-killers like SSNs, they are ambush hunters and float and attack when an opportunity arises. No need to actively search for something that you know will come.

AIP subs are also great for smaller seas and shallower waters, places where nuke boats have a hard time operating in, thus increasing the AIP's advantage in these scenarios. In open waters nuke boats are king, but in seas like the North Sea, where chokepoints exist, nuke boats like that of the Russians are at a disadvantage when faces with the Ula, Type 209/212/214/, or Gotland class.
