We also need Britecloud ECM decoys, it is a unique system in that while it is expendable, the BriteCloud is a self-contained digital radio frequency memory (DRFM)-based pod meant for countering radar-guided air-to-air missiles (AAM) and surface-to-air missiles (SAM). The BriteCloud was designed to be deployed from a standard chaff and flare system, the integration to which requires minimal integration work. The BriteCloud has a shelf-life of five years. When we have complete package of it JF17 response time will be greatly enhance. KJL-2 just give us Radar. But this package will make JF17 a beast and complete solution.

Just noticed that the scan angle of the RAVEN with it swash plate is no more than that of the KLJ-7A.

The RBE 2 AESA of Rafale is a conventional fixed AESA. The decision not to include a repositioner (swashplate) was made in the mid-1990s after a detailed study. The conclusion was drawn that though a repositioner is a good solution when the combat situation is simple, it becomes absolutely irrelevant when the battlespace becomes more complex due to a high quantity of targets spread in space. The repositioned solution was also considered irrelevant for the majority of the missions..

Selex Italia was FIAR, then gal avionica. Selex UK used to be Marconi Avionics in Edinburgh, then BAE Systems Avionics, now Selex UK.

aircraft is not a static platform. Swash plate is a failed idea and no practical air force has opted for it.

What is your professional opinion? Where should PAF will go. I am strongly in favor of Leonardo because it can give us various options under one roof and we don't have to run extra miles for each sub systems of various vendors and it will reduce work load dramatically and since all products are from same manufacturer the connectivity between these system will be smooth with less failure in real time environment. It's not so much where it "should" go ... but where it "can" go.

Elbit, an Israeli company, owns like 85% of the helmet mounted display and sight market. Unless there is a third-party distributor willing to sell the system and integrate it onto the JF-17, that entire avenue is a no-go.

PAF could theoretically ask AEL Sistema in Brazil or Ferranti in the U.K to sell us the Elbit Targo, but I have zero confidence in such a path ever coming to fruition. Maybe ask Aselsan or Denel Dynamics to buy the Elbit Targo and re-sell it to us. These are all dream world routes, so they don't mean anything in reality. Nice ideas. Zero impact.

Besides that, it's unclear if Thales and BAE would be willing to engage in acceptable terms - unlikely at best, a dead-end most likely. Otherwise, the TopOwl-F and Striker II would be good HMD/S systems to have - can't do much about unavailability though.

So what's left? I guess we'll be waiting for China, but their stuff is under development. I don't think it would be ready in time or the Block-III. I floated the idea of getting in touch with Airbus DS in South Africa since it might have the expertise, but I doubt it (Airbus DS) would be interested.

In all likelihood the PAF will have to push HMD/S and HOBS AAM pairing up to a later time. All we can do is, perhaps, accept the imperfect situation for what it is and move on.

The Thales TopOwl-F has certain similarities with Aselsan AVCI? TopOwl has been cleared to work with M2k5 & Mig29. Although AVCI is for T129 but is it possible for JF17?

Let put HMD/S a side, what about about sub systems? like Britecloud ECM decoys and skyward along with Vixen 1000E?

i strongly believe some chinese high tier HMD project details will be available at this IDEF 2017 and a end product or prototype at Zhuhai 2018..i wish this happens

According to me no matter which radar is used in blk3. I am just dying to hear the news that first bach of blk3 with upgrades is handed over to the PAF.

ECM decoys aren't that big a deal IMO. You just need chaff/flare sized systems with DRFM jammers. Turkey manufactures its own too. It's up to the PAF if it deems this effective enough for the cost. As for IRST, it was slotted as something they'd consider, but it wasn't a necessary feature of the Block-III.

well off course evryone knows block 3 will have it. but dnno why i get a feeling that maybe just like 29th block2 got IFR probe while block 2 was supposed to have it from beginning , maybe same case will hapen in block 3 with hmds..maybe
