Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said Awami League has never requested India to back this government to cling onto power and none has been assigned to make the request on behalf of the Sheikh Hasina government.

"It could be the personal opinion of the person (foreign minister) who said this. The statement has nothing to do with either the government or the party," he added.

The road transport and bridges minister said these while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of central Janmastami rally in the capital’s Palashi intersection on Friday afternoon.

Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee organised the rally marking one of the notable religious festival of the Hindu community, Janmashtami which is the birth anniversary of Shree Krishna.

Obaidul Quader said, “We have a friendly relation with India. India has been our friend in bad time. We were bound by blood in 1971. But, that doesn’t mean we’ll request India for clinging onto power; Awami League doesn’t and didn’t make such requests."

“No one has been assigned for that by the Sheikh Hasina Government. The people of Bangladesh are the source of our support and power,” he added.

Obaidul Quader said, “I want to make it clear that the statement has nothing to do with either the government or the party. This in fact embarrasses India as well. How can we say such a thing? The friendship is in a good shape. Don’t ruin it with unnecessary statements.”

Obaidul Quader also said prime minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to visit India in September next. He said there might be agreements on some more issues then. There will be discussions on strengthening transaction and partnership even further.

Mentioning that the government does not want hostility with India, the ruling party general secretary said, “Brewing animosity with India after 1975, our country harmed the most. When Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi came to power, they broke that wall of mistrust and confusion down.”

Obaidul Quader claimed that after the current government came to power people of the Hindu community peacefully celebrated festivals like Durga Puja and Janmashtami, except some isolated incidents.

He said, some violent incidents have been happening recently. People who vandalise temples and houses, do not belong to any parties. Rather, they are miscreants and enemies for everyone.

Highlighting that people of the Hindu community is not a minority in this country Obaidul Quader said, “You fought in the liberation war. You too have the same rights. There’s no one to deny your right.”

“BNP is the trusted home of communal politics. They are the ones that prompt and instigate that”, Obaidul Quader warned to be aware of them.

Manindra Kumar Nath, president of Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee presided over the event. Following his speech, Fazle Noor Taposh, mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, inaugurated the Janmashtami rally lighting the veneration lamp.

The mayor said, “We have been able to bring out the Janmashtami rally once again this year following a gap of several years due to the corona outbreak.”

Devotees gathered at the Palashi intersection with rallies on behalf of different monasteries, temples and organisations of the city.

Thousands of people joined the rally that started from Palashi More area at around 4.30 in the afternoon. The rally ended at Bahadur Shah Park after parading the Shikkha Bhaban, Police Headquarters and Gulistan areas.

Bro, Uncle Sam IS A tyrannical power.

Have you forgotten the “war on terror”?

I kinda understand your reasoning.

Having said that, I think the Yankees has historically, been far more benevolent than forexample colonial european nation, including Russia. Look what Japan did to China and East Asia when it had technological supremacy.

In the end, i would say America has been a roadblock for development in many Muslim countries the past 20 years, but prior to that there was very little friction between the US and the muslim countries, generally speaking.

They armed Israel to the teeth to cower Muslim countries.

And then funded Jihadis to fight communism.

Sufism reigned supreme until Uncle Sam unleashed Wahhabism.

Rest is history.

US is cunning - they throw crumbs.

Perhaps some evidences are required when you are using such slur against our armed forces to a common people like me , who is fascinated by the armed forces!

Thank you!

Armed forces are indeed like whores.

US appointed military strongmen from Bangladesh to timbakto

To serve their interest.

This is the main reason we made no progress until a decade ago.

yeah we see last 10 years thier indipendence man stop this BS now india have signed tons of agreements including CAATSA COMCASA etc . today's india is more bound to US then today's pakistan

yeah the same time US spying ships were in india and india we begging from US for not impose sanctions on india. todays india is more US colony then RUSSIAN colony .
India has signed "CAATSA"
do you know what CAATSA is first of all lol?
pentagon gave a a explicit waiver to India for s400 purchase, before the purchase was finalized all chats on this site was India would never purchase s400 or America is sure to penalize India lol
we buy Russian oil, trade with Russia, area actively engaged with Russia in military and other development fields.
Cancellation of some Russian deals is normal, some American deals were cancelled too India is trying to improve it'sown domestic industry which is the best option in long run.

Pakistan meanwhile is fully dependent on whims and fancies of US rn, your govt is not a popular elected one, your army is in bed with US, you are bankrupt and have taken massive loans from US centric organisations and what not. you don't even have an independent foreign policy, poorer than us but still can't buy Russian oil.

If Pakistan is bankrupt than india us in a FAR FAR worst position as india has the highest number of acutely malnourished and growth stunted people in the world. Ther is more poverty in india than sub-saharan africa. Over 4 million indians also died of coronavurus in 2020/21. Here is the evidence.......... :azn::

Begum Hasina is India's important ally in the region. GoI will extend her all the support that she could ask for

Alga Momen is deliberately letting the US know that India and China have BDs back
If so , why govt is embarrassed with his comment, and told that it's his personal comment and not the statement of Govt or party?

I will ask one more question, but it will depend on your answer. Thank you ! :-)

Mirza Fakhrul demands explanation on foreign minister's statement

Questioning whether the Awami League government has been in power at the 'mercy' of India, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday demanded an explanation on the foreign minister's recent statement on seeking India’s backing to keep Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in power.

“Ministers from a rally of Awami League in Dhaka issued various threats and used terrorist language. When you're issuing so many threats, then why does your foreign minister seek India's help to sustain your government and your prime minister?" he said, reports UNB.

Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader said their party wants an explanation of the foreign minister's statement. “We want to know from the government, the foreign minister and also from the Indian government what is the meaning of what the foreign minister said? Does it mean that this government is sustaining with India’s backing? People want to know the meaning of this. It's urgent.”

He also said questions have been raised about whether Bangladesh will really be an independent state or not, whether Bangladesh will really be a democratic country or not and whether the people of Bangladesh will get back their rights or not.

Since it came to power, Fakhrul said, Awami League has snatched the rights of the people of Bangladesh in a very well-planned way while the constitution has been amended annulling the provisions of the caretaker government and depriving people of their scope to vote and elect their representatives every five years.

Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal arranged the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club marking its 42nd founding anniversary.

Earlier at a Janmashtami programme in Chattogram on Thursday, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen reportedly said that he urged the Indian government to back Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina so that she can stay in power.

Islami Andolan Bangladesh commented that Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen's talk about Bangladesh-India is clearly an acknowledgment of selling the country's sovereignty. On Friday, the Amir of the party, Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim (Charmonai Pir), in a statement sent to the media, demanded that the foreign minister be immediately expelled from the cabinet and arrested for violation of national interests, treason and betrayal of the state.

According to the statement of Islamic Movement Bangladesh, the next generation of the party that led the liberation war is trying to maintain their power by holding the freedom of Bangladesh hostage.

Islami Andolan Bangladesh's statement also said that the people of an independent country have full authority to decide who will survive and who will not. When the foreign minister asks another country to do whatever it takes to keep it in power, it is clearly handing over the blood-bought sovereignty of the people of Bangladesh. The Foreign Minister has betrayed the blood-bought rights of the people by making this request to the Government of India. At the same time he committed the crime of sedition.

Here's the speech and Pinaki's commentary

This disgraceful servile attitude from Alga Momen should not be tolerated. As a foreign minister of a sovereign nation, this moron is literally begging India to keep Hasina in power. It was fun and all when he was making silly comments here and there. But this has sinister notion and should not be laughed off as silly.

@leonblack08 , bhai , it's called equal ally , and you must beg/lick the boot of equal ally! If you don't believe me , ask our @UKBengali the great! :omghaha:

Jokes aside , I'm surprised that what the hell is happening in Bangladesh! Is it really begging to India, or sort warning India indirectly , that if you don't support us , Hindus will be in trouble?

If later is the case , then surely BAL will lose all credibility as so called secular party!

If former is true , then it's directly anti state movement!

Both are sinister things! I see, perhaps really BAL is no longer united!
